NOTES: DC3 softball hits the road to take on No. 10 Barton

DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College softball team looks to change its fortunes against a difficult foe in 10th-ranked Barton 2 p.m. Saturday in Great Bend.

Individual Stats

- The Conqs are coming off a pair of non-KJCCC losses on the road against the Kansas Wesleyan JV on Monday, falling 2-0 in game one and losing on a walk-off home run in nine innings in game two, 7-6.

- DC3 has dropped eight of their last nine games with the lone win coming over Seward County at home April 2.

- The Conqs were swept at home by Barton on March 11, falling 5-0 in game one and 14-1 in game two.


- The thin, injury-riddled DC3 roster was dealt another injury blow last week as the Conqs' No. 2 pitcher Lindsay Lemmon was lost for the season due to injury. The freshman from Torrington, Wyo., was 3-3 on the season with a 4.04 ERA in 45 innings of work - still second on the team.

- Kim Herron continues to lead the Conqs in the circle as the freshman from Shawnee, Okla., is 9-10 on the season with a 2.59 ERA (sixth in the KJCCC) and 70 strikeouts (sixth) in 110.2 innings (sixth). 

- Candace Bollig leads the team in hitting at .365 (21st in the KJCCC) and she is ninth in the conference in on-base percentage at .488.

- Taylor Menard has increased her batting average to .337 thanks to hitting .365 in KJCCC play, good for 16th in the conference. She leads the KJCCC in at-bats during conference play with 52 and is sixth in hits with 19.

Individual Stats

- Since having its 19-game winning streak snapped by Colby on April 2, Barton has won three straight, including sweeping Seward 21-10 and 6-5 on Wednesday.

- Barton tied a season high with six home runs in its 21-10 win in game one against Seward on Wednesday. The Cougars lead the KJCCC and are sixth in the nation with 56 home runs.

- Barton isn't just about the long ball as the Cougars lead the KJCCC and are fifth in the NJCAA with 114 steals and have only been caught seven times.

- The Cougars have four players hitting above .400 in Maddison Schofield (.460), Jayden Gonzales (.455), Brittany Wood (.440) and Jenna Hosey (.419). Wood's 15 home runs leads the KJCCC and is tied for fifth in the nation while her 70 RBI lead the conference and is tied for fourth in the NJCAA.

- Barton has been a two-headed monster in the circle with Madison Didion (21-2, 1.53 ERA, 171 strikeouts, 132.2 innings) and Holly Posegate (19-1, 2.38 ERA, 78 strikeouts, 114.2 innings). The two have accounted for all but 14.2 innings pitched for the Cougars in 2016.
