NOTES: DC3 ends regular season at No. 6 Butler after schedule change

DODGE CITY, Kan. -- After many schedule changes due to weather and umpire shortages, the Dodge City Community College softball team will put its five-game winning streak on the line in its regular-season finale against No. 6 Butler 5 p.m. Monday in El Dorado. As this doubleheader was originally scheduled for last Thursday in Dodge City, the Conquistadors will still be the home team.

Individual Stats

- Since defeating No. 9 Barton on the road 7-6 on April 9, DC3 has won five in a row to even its record overall and in conference play.

- DC3 pitcher Kim Herron has all five wins over that stretch, including four complete games. Overall Herron is 14-11 (sixth in wins in KJCCC) on the season with a 2.94 ERA (sixth), 84 strikeouts (sixth) and 15 complete games (second) in 145.1 innings (fourth). Her 14 wins is tied for 10th on the DC3 all-time single-season wins list.


- Offensively the Conqs have been paced by Candace Bollig during their win streak. She's 7-for-13 (.538) with three home runs, a double, a triple, nine RBI and six runs (she earned KJCCC Player of the Week honors last week as well). Overall the sophomore third baseman is hitting .384 with nine home runs, 12 doubles, three triples, 34 RBI, 40 runs and 11 stolen bases - all team highs except for triples (she is second). Her .786 slugging percent is fifth in the KJCCC while her .503 on-base percentage is sixth.

- DC3 also has four other hitters hitting above .300 in Taylor Menard (.342), Marina Kelly (.336), Kaylie Schoendaller (.319) and Baylee Rial (.313). Schoendaller is second on the team in home runs (four), RBI (24) and doubles (eight).

- The Conqs are currently locked into the No. 4 spot and will be the home team against either Seward or Pratt in the opening round of the Region VI Tournament 1 p.m. Friday in El Dorado.

Individual Stats

- The Grizzlies clinched their sixth straight KJCCC title Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader from No. 9 Barton.

- Butler has won 26 consecutive games, one shy of the school record of 27 set in 2013.

- The Grizzlies lead the conference in batting average (.393 - 11th in NJCAA), ERA (1.47 - 2nd in NJCAA) and fielding percentage (.956 - 17th in NJCAA).

- Butler's Morgan Bohanan is second in the nation in hitting at .538 as the Grizzlies have three other hitters batting over .400 with 100-plus at-bats - Brynn Minor (.478), Megan Wurts (.466) and Becca Schulte (.460).

- Regan Mergele (117.1 IP) and Jennifer Hittinger (105.1 IP) have carried most of the load in the circle for the Grizzlies with Mergele at 20-3 with a 1.43 ERA and 113 strikeouts while Hittinger is 18-1 with a 1.79 ERA with 67 strikeouts.
