Box Score 2 LIBERAL, Kan. — The Dodge City Community College softball team snapped its six-game losing skid by sweeping a doubleheader from Seward County on Saturday, 5-4 and 10-1, on the road.
The Conquistadors (7-7 overall, 2-2 KJCCC) in the first game built a 4-0 lead after three innings thanks to a pair of runs in the first (highlighted by a
Baylee Rial RBI single) and the third (highlighted by a
Marina Kelly sacrifice fly).
The Saints (5-15, 0-2) cut the DC3 lead to 4-3 in the fifth inning - with
Lindsey Lemmon entering in relief to get the Conqs out of a jam - before DC3 scored a very important insurance run in the sixth to make it 5-3 and holding on for the one-run victory.
Kim Herron picked up the win for DC3, going 4.1 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Lemmon got the save, going 2.2 innings and surrendering an unearned run on two hits with one strikeout.
Candace Bollig paced the Conqs at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Kaylie Schoendaller and Herron were also 2-for-4 for DC3.
A five-run second inning that included an RBI single by Bollig with the bases loaded that turned into four runs due to a Seward error in the outfield and a four-run third highlighted by a
Kayla Frazier two-run double blew the game open for DC3 in game two as the Conqs cruised to the run-rule 10-1 victory.
Frazier went 3-for-3 for DC3 with a double, two RBI and three runs, Schoendaller was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, Bollig was 2-for-4 with three RBI and
Heather Amen was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs.
Lemmon went the distance for the win, giving up a run on seven hits with no walks or strikeouts - throwing only 45 pitches in the game (34 for strikes).
The Conqs begin a six-game homestand starting 2 p.m. Tuesday with a doubleheader against Clarendon at Legends Park. DC3 also hosts Frank Phillips 2 p.m. Wednesday and returns to KJCCC play at home 2 p.m. Friday against Barton.
