Box Score 2 EL DORADO, Kan. — A strong performance by Dodge City Community College left-hander
Matthew Perea paced the Conquistadors to a game one 6-3 victory before falling late in game two 9-5 to split a doubleheader with Butler on Sunday at McDonald Stadium.
In the first game Dodge City (18-7 overall, 7-5 KJCCC) scored five runs in the second inning – capped by a
Ricky Trammell two-run single – and it turned out to be more than enough for the Conquistadors' Perea.
The El Paso native went five innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk to move to 5-1 on the season.
Jeremy Hidalgo tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the save, giving up just one hit.
Frankie Valle finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs for the Conquistadors as seven of the nine DC3 hitters finished with a hit.
Travis Edgar picked up the loss for Butler (11-14, 1-7), going 3.1 innings and giving up six runs (only one earned due to four Grizzlies errors) on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
Hunter Aguirre and Channing Williams had two hits apiece for Butler.
In game two, DC3 led 2-1 after three, 3-2 after five and 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh before a two-run seventh for the Grizzlies gave them a 5-4 lead - with the final run coming in on a DC3 error.
The Conquistadors tied the game 5-5 when Trammell blooped an RBI single to right in the top of the eighth before the Grizzlies scored four runs in the bottom of the inning - capped by a two-run double by Cory Slater to finish a big day for the Butler first baseman. Slater finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and five RBI.
Carter Hogan got the loss for DC3, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits in an inning of work.
Cole Brandon got the start for the Conqs, going 5.2 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Trammell paced DC3 at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and a double while
Colton Onstott was 2-for-4 with three RBI while
Max Laney and
Jake Pederson also had two hits apiece.
Marcus Washburn got the win for Butler, going 1.1 innings and giving up no runs and one hit and striking out one.
DC3 plays a non-conference doubleheader at NOC-Tonkawa 1 p.m. Wednesday.
