Box Score 2 COLBY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College softball team lost a 3-1 lead late in game one and dropped the second game as well in its KJCCC openers on the road against Colby on Wednesday, 5-3 and 5-2.
The Conquistadors (5-7, 0-2) built a 3-1 advantage in the first game thanks to a three-run fourth inning highlighted by a pair of bunts by
Kayla Frazier and
Taylor Menard that scored runs for the Conqs.
Colby (15-5, 2-0) cut the DC3 lead to one on a Rachel Van Gulick home run to lead off the fifth inning before a two-run home run by Dani Asche gave the Trojans a 4-3 advantage. Colby tacked on another run in the sixth for insurance.
Kim Herron got the loss (3-3) for DC3, going all six innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
The Conqs had four hits in the game, all singles by Herron, Menard,
Marina Kelly and
Baylee Rial.
In game two, Colby took a 3-0 lead in the second inning before a two-run home run by
Candace Bollig (her fourth of the season) cut the Trojan lead to 3-2.
But that is as close as DC3 would get as it dropped its sixth-straight contest.
Lindsey Lemmon got the loss (1-2), going the distance and giving up five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Once again the Conqs managed just four hits with Menard going 2-for-3, Bollig 1-for-2 with the home run and
Taryn Garza with a double.
DC3 hits the road to play Seward on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
