NOTES: Conqs look to improve consistency in series versus Cloud Co.

DC3's Max Laney
DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College baseball team looks to improve its consistency in execution when the Conquistadors host a four-game series against KJCCC-foe Cloud County starting with a doubleheader 2 p.m. Saturday at Cavalier Field.

DC3 BREAKDOWN (12-5, 1-3)

AVG: .321 (10th in KJCCC) | OBP: .430 (5th) | SB: 11 (18th) | ERA: 5.16 (9th) | OPP AVG: .267 (4th)
Individual Stats

- Since starting the season 10-0, the DC3 baseball team has gone 2-5 - including splitting a mid-week doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa at home Wednesday and going 1-3 at Colby last weekend.

- Over its 2-5 stretch, the Conqs have been held to five hits or less three times and four games where they didn't record an extra-base hit.

- However, it hasn't only been the hitting as the Conqs have allowed four runs or more in eight straight games. Part of that has been wildness on the mound as during DC3's 10-0 start it walked 13 while during this 2-5 stretch it has walked 27.

- The Conqs did sharpen up its defensive effort Wednesday, not committing an error in the doubleheader. They had committed 15 errors in their previous five games.

- DC3's Max Laney has reached base in 16 of the Conqs' 17 games this season. The sophomore is hitting .370, but has an on-base percentage of .547 - good for eighth in the KJCCC. That's due to his 11 walks and being plunked seven times - second in the KJCCC.

- DC3's Carter Hogan leads the KJCCC with five saves. In eight games the freshman right-hander has a 1.89 ERA with eight strikeouts and three walks in 9.2 innings.

- Lubbock Christian-transfer Jay Rawlins leads the Conqs in innings (17.0) and has a 2.12 ERA - tops among DC3 starting pitchers. He is 2-1 on the season with the Conqs' lone complete game.

CLOUD COUNTY BREAKDOWN (2-15, 0-4)

AVG: .227 (19th) | OBP: .331 (20th) | SB: 9 (19th) | ERA: 8.17 (17th) | OPP AVG: .327 (16th)
Individual Stats

- Cloud County is coming off being swept by Barton County at home last weekend, dropping the first game 7-4 before losing the next three by eight runs or more.

- Prior to that series, the Thunderbirds were coming off their second win of the season - a 10-9 victory over McCook. Cloud County's other win was a 9-8 victory at Highland. The T-Birds had started the season 0-10.

- While Cloud County started the season 0-10, four of those losses were by one run.

- Jose Chacin has been the T-Birds' top hitter, batting a team-best .396 with eight RBI (second on the team). Cloud County has only one other player hitting above .265 - Alixon Herrera at .370 with a home run and five RBI. Jacoby Grady leads the team with eight extra-base hits (six doubles, a triple and a home run) to go along with a team-best nine RBI and .250 average.

- Sophomore John Badgett has been Cloud County's top pitcher as he is 0-0 with a 2.57 ERA, 14 strikeouts and 11 walks in 14 innings pitched (three starts, one relief appearance).
