Box Score 2 EL PASO, Texas -- The Dodge City Community College softball team was cruising with a 3-0 lead and two outs in the bottom of the fifth against El Paso in its first game of the day Saturday morning.
Then things came apart for the Conquistadors.
A walk and three straight hits by El Paso tied the game in the fifth and a pair of errors in the sixth led to a seven-run inning for the Tejanas as DC3 lost 10-3 in its first game before losing to Division II No. 9 Pima 11-1 in its second game at an event in El Paso.
The Conqs (5-3) scored single runs in the first, the third (a
Taryn Garza RBI groundout after
Candace Bollig tripled earlier in the inning) and the fifth inning (Garza RBI single after a Bollig double earlier in the frame) and pitcher
Kim Herron got the first two El Paso hitters to ground out in the bottom of the fifth.
But a walk followed by a single, an RBI double by Cristina Alexander and a two-run single by Jasmine Mitchell suddenly had the game tied 3-3 heading to the sixth.
The Conqs were held scoreless in their half of the sixth before a lead-off walk for El Paso (8-12) and a pair of errors with a fielder's choice in between loaded the bases. The Tejanas took advantage as five of the next six hitters had a run-scoring hit to build the lead to 10-3.
Herron took the loss, going 5.2 innings and giving up 10 runs (three earned) on 12 hits with three strikeouts and two walks to move her record to 3-2 on the season.
Bollig finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs, Garza went 1-for-3 with two RBI and
Kaylie Schoendaller went 2-for-3.
In the second game against Pima (14-7), the Aztecs scored runs in five of the six innings before run-ruling the Conqs 11-1 in six innings.
Hannah Feagler took the loss, going 4.1 innings and giving up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits with four walks to move her record to 1-1.
Bollig drove in the Conqs' lone run on an RBI double in the fourth inning.
Baylee Rial finished 2-for-3 for DC3 while Garza was 2-for-2.
The Conqs are scheduled to play El Paso in a doubleheader starting 9 a.m. Sunday in El Paso.
