Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - On a historic night which saw the Dodge City Community College volleyball team open up a brand new student activities center in front of the largest recorded home crowd in team history, the Conquistadors were unable to close in on Colby Community College in a 3-0 loss on Monday, October 10th.
DC3 is now 18-12 on the year and 4-7 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while Colby remained atop the conference standings at 10-1 and 15-4 overall.
In the first set, the Conquistadors would jump out to an early lead and hold it through most of the set in a back-and-forth affair before Colby would take the lead for good at 18-17. After going down 22-18, DC3 would fight back to 23 all before losing two straight points to give up the set. The second set would see Dodge City trail throughout, and never able to truly recover from a slow start, eventually dropping the set 25-20. A third set comeback would not be in store for the Conquistadors who would fall 25-22, dropping the season series to the Trojans two matches to none.
Mariah Watkins,
Raquel Valdez, and
Sada Smith all had eight kills in the loss tonight, with Valdez adding two total blocks. Smith, who had set the career kills record at DC3 this past weekend at the Seminole State tournament, also had nine digs.
Mickey Kriegh would have three solo blocks to go along with three kills while
Daisy Cheek added 13 assists.
A Wednesday night road match is in store next for the Conquistadors, who head to Trinidad, Colorado to take on Trinidad State at 6 p.m. MT.
