Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College volleyball team was on the verge of taking the first game against Seminole State College as it rallied to take a 24-23 lead, forcing the Trojans to take a timeout.
However, the Conquistadors couldn't hold on and dropped the game 26-24 and the match 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-14) Tuesday at DC3 Gymnasium.
DC3 (2-17) trailed for much of the first game but rallied to tie it 20-20 after a hitting error by Seminole State (11-10).
Another hitting error gave the Conqs the lead and it grew to 22-20 after the Trojans couldn't control the serve of DC3's
Hailee Hoskinson.
The Conqs were at game point 24-23 before three straight points by Seminole State gave the Trojans the game and took the air of DC3.
"
I think at times we can be the team that uses that as fuel, and other times it is water on the fire," DC3 coach Ashley Nehls said. "It must've been water on the fire tonight."
The Conqs dropped the second set 25-19, but took a 3-0 lead to open the third set. However, the Trojans scored the next eight points and went on to win the game 25-14 to clinch the match.Sada Smith led the Conqs with 12 kills and two solo blocks,
Tenille Tholen had a team-high seven assists and Smith, Tholen and
Katie Garcia each had 12 digs to lead DC3.
The Conqs return to KJCCC action Thursday when they host Butler at 6:30 p.m.
