Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kansas: DC3 softball had a hard day on the diamond this afternoon as they faced off with Barton Community College in the second part of a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference matchup. The Cougars ended the day with an 11-6 win after a complete seven innings and 9-1 five-inning victory over the Conqs.
Dodge City had the upper hand in the first game after crossing four runs in the bottom of the second inning and keeping the Cougars scoreless until the third.
Danielle Aldana walked to start the inning and moved to third after singles by
Courtney Rettig and
Kaitlyn Amaral. She scored on an illegal pitch.
Chantal Prester then roped a double to right field to score Rettig and put runners on second and third.
Lindsey Karlin then singled to left field to score Amaral and
Ashley Beavers reached on a fielder's choice squeeze bunt that the Cougars executed to get Prester out.
Beavers then stole second, drawing the throw and allowing Karlin to score from third before Barton closed out the inning.
In the top of the third, the opposition scored two runs and added another in the fourth to close the gap.
DC3 posted two more in the fourth inning to extend the gap a little, but the bats got quiet and Barton shut down the Conqs in the following three innings.
In the fourth,
Heather Amen singled in the infield and Karlin tripled to right center to score her. Karlin scored on the next at bat after Beavers roped a single up the middle to put the Conqs up 6-3.
BCC plated two more in the fifth, one in the sixth and five runs in the top of seven to seal the 11-6 deal.
In the game, Karlin went 2-2 with two RBIs, two runs and two walks. Amaral went 2-3 with one run and Beavers, Rettig, Prester and Amen each collected one hit throughout the game.
Jordan Mecham worked through 4.1 innings, fanning five and allowing five runs on six hits.
Lauren Kelley picks up the loss after fanning one batter, allowing five earned runs (six total) in 2.2 innings.
In game two, Barton scored first in the top of the third inning on a solo homerun.
Dodge City answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot past the left center fence by
Taryn Garza to even things up.
Then in the fifth, Dodge City allowed eight runs on four hits and three Conq errors to give up the game 9-1 after five innings of work.
Karlin, Garza and Prester each had hits with Garza owning the only RBI for DC3.
Mia Trujillo picks up the loss after slinging 4.2 innings, fanning two and allowing two earned runs (four total) on four hits. Rathgeber came in for a brief stint, allowing four unearned runs on one hit.
Lauren Kelley finished out the fifth inning, giving up one unearned run on one hit after four batter's faced.
The Conqs hit the road this weekend, heading to Garden City on Saturday, April 11 at 2 and 4 p.m.
