Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kansas:  DC3 baseball split day one to open up the four-game series with KJCCC opponent's Pratt Community College.  The Conqs took game one 11-1 in six innings before falling 10-6 in nine innings.

In game one, both teams stayed scoreless until the Conquistadors unleashed in the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Josh Williams started things off with a single through the right side.  Jordan Doan then singled to center field and Ricky Trammell reached on a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners (Doan out at second).

After an unsuccessful squeeze bunt that caught Williams out at home, Dodge had two outs and runners on first (Hayden Simmons) and second (Trammell).  Colbey Madewell then kept things going with a single to right center that scored Trammell and put Simmons on third.  In the next play, Madewell was caught stealing second, but Simmons was heads up on the base path, scoring during the pickle to put DC3 up 2-0 to end the inning.

DC3 tabbed four more runs in the fifth, gaining a 6-0 lead before the Beavers tabbed their only run of the game in the top of the sixth.

Knowing they needed five runs to win the game early, Dodge City came out with hot bats.  Tim Wakefield led off the inning with a walk.  He moved over to third on a single through the right side by Johnny Balsamo.  Balsamo then stole second to put both runners in scoring position.

Frankie Valle singled through the right side to score Wakefield and Leno Ramirez roped a double to right center to score Balsamo and keep runners at second and third.

Jason Nichols continued the inning by reaching first after being hit by a pitch.  Doan reached on a fielder's choice that caught Nichols at second but scored Valle.  Trammell kept things going with a single to centerfield; he scored Ramirez which put runners at first and third.

A wild pitch advanced both runners to scoring position and Simmons walked to load the bases again.  Doan took a chance at home on a wild pitch, winning the gamble, and the game, in the sixth inning.

Luke Crabb had another excellent game on the bump, fanning seven and allowing only one earned run on four hits throughout six innings pitched.

Trammell collected a 3-4 performance at the plate with three RBIs and one run.  Doan went 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs for the Conqs and Williams and Madewell went 2-3 with one RBI for the Conqs.

Valle and Ramirez each had one hit and one RBI and Balsamo and Wakefield closed out the game with one hit apiece.

Game two was not as pleasant for the Conqs despite the Conqs leading the game with 11 hits to the Beavers 10 and a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Pratt tabbed three runs in both the third and fifth innings, along with another run in the sixth to go up 7-3 before the Conqs scored again.

DC3 answered in the sixth with a run on their own, but the Beavers were quick to cross two more in the seventh to maintain their lead.  Dodge added two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Pratt was quick to answer with another run in the top of the next frame, snagging a 10-6 lead.

The Conquistadors had multiple opportunities to score, but standout plays by the Beavers defense quelled their efforts resulting in the nine-inning loss.

In game two, Balsamo and Williams went 2-4 with two RBIs and one run apiece.  Balsamo also tabbed a double and walked once and Williams tabbed his sixth homerun of 2015.  Trammell and Simmons each also collected two hits and one run in the game.  Doan and Madewell closed the game with one hit and RBI each and Ramirez owned one hit and one run.

Layne Downing, now 4-1, picked up his first loss of the season after slinging 4.1 innings.  He gave up four earned runs on four hits while striking out five.

Cory Royer, Adam Rutz, Anthony Bowmaker and Phillip Albracht collectively finished up the game on the hill.  Royer gave up one earned run on two hits in 0.2 innigns, Rutz gave up one earned run on one hit in his 0.1 inning pitched.  Bowmaker tabbed one strikeout while giving up two earned runs on one hit in 1.1 innings pitched.  Closing out the final 2.1 innings, Albracht gave up one earned run on two hits while facing 10 batters.

Both Dodge City and Pratt will be back at it tomorrow, April 26 at Cavalier Field in Dodge City, Kansas.  The doubleheader will begin at 1:05 p.m.
