Box Score 2 HUTCHINSON, Kansas: The Blue Dragons came away with game one again on day two, but DC3 made changes in game two to work towards a 3-2 win to close the series with an even 2-2 split.
In game one, DC3 tabbed a run in the top of the first before going down 2-1 in the bottom of the second. Hutch tallied two more runs, one in each the fourth and sixth innings for the seven-inning 4-1 win.
Russell Mithlo (6-1) picked up his first loss of the season, now standing 6-1 on 2015. He gave up three earned runs on eight hits while striking out five and facing 26 batters on the day.
Austin Hammer closed out the last two batters of the game to put down the Blue Dragon offensive.
Jason Nichols went 2-3 with one RBI in the game.
Ricky Trammell and
Colbey Madewell also had hits.
Johnny Balsamo reached after being hit by a pitch to score he lone Conquistador run.
Game two started with big defense and pitching on both sides, not allowing any runs throughout the first three innings.
Then, in the top of the fourth, DC3 broke out the big bats and tabbed three runs to tab the lead. Hutch worked for a run in the bottom of the sixth and eighth, but the Conqs managed to shut them down and maintain the 3-2 victory to end the series.
Josh Williams went 2-3 with one RBI, one double and one run.
Hayden Simmons went 1-3 with two RBIs. Trammell,
Jordan Doan,
Frankie Valle,
Leno Ramirez and
Tim Wakefield also had hits in the game.
Andrew Riddell and
Matthew Perea pitched a collectively excellent game. Riddell (5-3) garnered the win after scattering one earned run on seven hits and fanning seven. Perea earned his first save of the season after striking out two and giving up one unearned run on one hit after 2.2 innings pitched.
This week, the Conqs return home to play a four-game series with KJCCC opponent's Pratt Community College. The doubleheaders will start at 1:05 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26 at Cavalier Field in Dodge City, Kansas.
