Box Score 2 HUTCHINSON, Kansas: Despite many attempts by Mother Nature to stop the four-game series between KJCCC opponents Hutchinson Community College, DC3 Baseball finished day one with a split. The second day has been pushed to this afternoon (Monday, April 20) at 3 p.m. on the road.
The Blue Dragons took game one 6-1 before the Conquistadors unleashed their bats to garner an 8-5 victory in game two.
To start the day,
Josh Williams went 3-3 and
Johnny Balsamo went 2-4.
Leno Ramirez went 1-2 with one run and two walks,
Jordan Doan tabbed the Conqs only RBI on a 1-3 performance and each
Frankie Valle and
Ricky Trammell owned a hit in the game.
Luke Crabb (5-3) picked up the loss after pitching 4.0 complete innings, fanning six and allowing only two earned runs on six hits after facing 23 batters. During his time on the bump, the Blue Dragons crossed six runs. Closing out the final 2.0 innings,
Adam Rutz gave up one earned runs on two hits while facing nine batters.
Dodge City started off game two by crossing a run in the top of the first inning. Hutch countered with two in the bottom of the third to take their first 2-1 lead of the game.
The Conqs tied things up in the fifth, before the home team added another in the bottom of the frame to go ahead.
A powerfully offensive inning in the sixth inning allowed the Conqs to tab four more runs to go up 6-3. After giving up another run in the bottom of the inning, DC3 tallied two more in the seventh to make the score 8-4 heading into the ninth inning.
In a last effort, the Blue Dragons tabbed one more run in the ninth before freshman right-hander
Layne Downing forced three outs to close out the inning with a complete game 8-5 win.
Throughout nine innings, Downing fanned nine after facing 38 batters. He gave up four earned runs on nine hits in the game.
Colbey Madewell and Ramirez each went 2-4 with two RBIs in the game. Madewell tabbed two runs and owned one putout and four assists from shortstop while Ramirez owned two doubles in the game.
Ricky Trammell went 3-5 with one RBI, two doubles and two runs in the game and
Hayden Simmons tabbed a 2-4 performance with one run and a stolen base.
Balsamo, Valle, Williams, Doan and
Jorden Fields each had one hit in the game with Balsamo, Valle and Doan owning a walk as well, Fields owning one RBI.
Next, the Conqs will finish the series with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. today, April 20 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
