Box Score 2 GARDEN CITY, Kansas: After taking both games at home earlier in the season, Dodge City started off the KJCCC doubleheader on Saturday off with a 5-2 win before falling 11-3 in game two.
The Conqs were down 2-0 in the first game, heading into the fifth inning. DC3 then managed to tie things up with two runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning. Dodge City then tabbed three runs in the top of the seventh inning before shutting down the Busters in the bottom of the frame to take the 5-2 win to start the day.
In the game,
Lindsey Karlin went 3-4 with two RBIs. Seven other Conquistadors had hits in the game with
Taryn Garza and
Courtney Rettig tabbing RBIs for the team.
Lauren Kelley (3-5) picked up the win for game one after slinging the final 1.2 innings of the game. She gave up no runs or hits while fanning two and facing five batters.
Jordan Mecham started the game, scattering two runs on four hits while striking out one in 23 batters.
Game two was not so kind to the Conquistadors and the Busters were out for blood. In the top of the first inning, the home team tabbed three runs. DC3 worked back with one run scored in the second and two more in the top of the third to tie things up 3-3.
Garden City then tallied two runs in each the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to close out game two of the doubleheader 11-3 in six innings.
Shelby Bowman went 3-3 with two RBIs including a double and homerun and crossed the plate twice.
Kaitlyn Amaral went 2-3 with one RBI at the plate and
Chantal Prester had a hit in the game.
Kelley picks up the loss after chucking 4.1 innings. She allowed two earned runs and eight total runs on 10 hits while striking out two batters.
Mia Trujillo closed the final 0.2 innings, giving up three unearned runs after facing six batters.
This week, DC3 softball hosts Pratt at 2 and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15 at Legends Park in Dodge City, Kansas.
