Box Score 4 DODGE CITY, Kansas: DC3 went 2-2 with Barton this past weekend, splitting each day of doubleheaders 1-1 for the two wins. On day one the Conqs dropped game one 5-1 and took game two 8-5. On the second day, the Conqs took out Barton 8-4 before falling 8-6 to close out the weekend.
In the first game, both teams stayed scoreless until Dodge City crossed one in the top of the fifth to garner the lead. Barton answered with five runs in the sixth inning, closing out the game in the top of the seventh to win 5-1.
Johnny Balsamo,
Jordan Doan and
Frankie Valle had hits in the game and
Hayden Simmons had one RBI on a sacrifice fly for the Conqs.
Luke Crabb (3-2) picked up the loss after chucking five innings, allowing three earned runs and one unearned run on four hits. He fanned nine throughout 25 batters of work.
Adam Rutz and
Corey Land came in the sixth inning to attempt to close things out. Rutz gave up one earned run on one hit and two walks and Land walked one before picking up the final two outs of the game.
Dodge took game two. After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, the Conqs crossed two in the third and one in the fourth to go up 3-1 over Barton. They gave up another run in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Coqns picked up two more in the sixth.
Barton picked up two more runs in the seventh, but Dc3 was quick to answer in the top of the eighth to go up 8-4. In a last attempt for victory, Barton crossed one in the ninth inning but it was not enough to catch up to the Conqs, eventually leading towards an 8-5 DC3 decision.
Valle went 4-5 with one RBI on a solo-shot outside the fence and crossed three runs on the day.
Colbey Madewell collected two RBIs after a 1-4 performance at the plate and Balsamo and
Jason Nichols also collected a RBI for the Conqs. Doan, Simmons,
Ricky Trammell and
Jorden Fields each also collected one hit.
Layne Downing advanced his record to 3-0 after the win. He struck out four and allowed two earned runs (four total runs) on six hits in 6.2 innings on the bump.
Anthony Bowmaker picked up his second save of the 2015 campaign after closing out the final 2.1 innings. He allowed one unearned run and two hits after 2.1 innings pitched.
Game three stayed in the Conquistador's graces after the Conqs started the game after posting two runs in the first and one in the second to go up 3-0 early. They posted two more in the top of the fourth before the opposition found their first run in the bottom of the frame. DC3 closed out the game with one run in the fifth and two more in the seventh while allowing three to Barton in the sixth to close things up with an 8-4 victory to start day two.
Trammell picked up a 4-4 performance at the plate with two RBIs on two doubles.
Jorden Fields and
Josh Williams each garnered two hits. Fields picked up a double and a triple for the Conqs while Williams owned two singles for the win.
Leno Ramirez and Simmons each picked up singles. Valle owned a single and an RBI and Balsamo earned an RBI in the game as well.
Russell Mithlo picked up the win, advancing his record to 6-0 on the season thus far. He fanned nine and allowed three earned runs on seven hits in his complete seven-inning win.
Despite outhitting Barton in game four, the home team still stole the 8-6 win over Dodge City to take the last victory. DC3 plated one in the first, but Barton was quick to answer with three of their own in the bottom of the frame.
DC3 then turned the page and crossed four in the top of the second to go up 5-3 early. Barton picked up one run in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh to finish out the day, and only gave up one more run to the Conqs in the top of the seventh.
DC3 picked up 13 hits in the game. Nichols and Simmons each collected three hits in the game. Nichols grabbed a double and three RBIs in the game while Simmons picked up one RBI for the Conqs.
Balsamo and Valle each had two hits and Balsamo picked one RBI. Madewell, Doan and Trammell each also had another hit for DC3 and Ramirez picked up and RBI to close out the day.
Andrew Riddell drops his record to 4-2 after slinging 5.1 innings. He allowed six earned runs and seven runs total on seven hits while striking out four.
Matthew Perea came in relief, finishing out the final 2.2 innings. He gave up one earned run on one hit while fanning three.
Next, DC3 returns home this Friday and Saturday, April 3 and 4. The Conqs will take on Longview in doubleheaders beginning at 4:05 p.m. on Friday and 1:05 p.m. on Saturday.
