Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge City softball was put under by the Butler Grizzlies this afternoon, falling in game one 13-1 in five innings and game two 6-1 in seven innings.
In game one, 24 mile per hour winds definitely played a factor. The Grizzlies jumped early in the first inning, scoring four runs in the first, two in the second and one in the fourth before the Conqs crossed their first run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the top of the Conq lineup worked to load the bases.
Kaitlyn Amaral then stepped up to bring in
Ashley Beavers from third base on a fielder's choice opportunity.
BCC ended the game in the fifth inning with six more runs before shutting down the Conqs' offense in the bottom of the frame.
Amaral went 1-2 with one RBI and
Taryn Garza tabbed the other hit of DC3s two hits in the game.
Jordan Mecham moved her record to 11-4 after the first game after receiving the loss. She pitched 1.1 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits while fanning one.
Lauren Kelley closed out the final 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs and five earned runs on eight hits.
Game two was geared towards a Conq win early on after Dodge City placed their first run on the board in the first inning. Beavers started things off with a shot up the middle and moved to third when both
Taryn Garza and
Shelby Bowman got dinged with pitches.
Danielle Aldana grounded out to second to bring in Beavers and collect the RBI, putting DC3 up 1-0.
Despite keeping the Grizzlies scoreless and off the base paths in the first three innings, they came back in the fourth to tie things up. The opposition continued to cross solo runs in the fifth and sixth and topped off their offensive with three runs in the seventh to go up 6-1.
Despite a few close attempts and runners on the base paths, Dodge failed to score any more runs, resulting in the two-game sweep to end the day.
Beavers, Bowman,
Heather Amen and
Adalynn Tanton each had hits in game two and Aldana owned the lone RBI.
Chantal Prester had three putouts in game one and topped it off with eight in game two.
Mia Trujillo started the game, pitching strong through 3.2 innings. She struck out three and gave up only one run on two hits in the game. Mecham picked up the second loss, dropping her record to 11-5. She allowed four earned runs and five runs on four hits throughout 3.1 innings of work.
DC3 will return to Legends Park this Saturday, March 28 at 2 and 4 p.m. as the Conqs take on Colby Community College.
