Box Score 4 EL PASO, Texas: Dodge City softball went 3-1 over the weekend with wins over fellow KJCCC opponent's Pratt, two against tournament hosts El Paso and a loss to Pima Community College.
They started the weekend off with an 11-1 five-inning loss to Pima. The opposition challenged DC3 from the get-go, putting runs on the board in the second, third and fourth innings while allowing the Conqs one run in the fifth to close things down.
In the game,
Shelby Bowman and
Heather Amen each posted 2-2 performances at the plate.
Lindsey Karlin and
Chantal Prester each added one hit in the game and
Ashley Beavers owned the lone RBI for the Conqs.
Lauren Kelley picked up the loss in the circle after allowing seven runs, five earned runs, on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched. She struck out two and walked two in 20 batters faced.
Tristan Rathgeber and
Mia Trujillo also put in time on the rubber. Rathgeber posted one hit and walked three, allowing five runs and Trujillo allowed one hit and fanned one after facing two batters.
The next three games went much differently, with the Conqs gaining the advantage in each contest.
Game two on day one was an 8-7 eight-inning win over tournament host El Paso Community College.
El Paso went ahead one run in the third inning, but DC3 was quick to add four runs in the next inning to go up. Both teams collected two runs in the fifth to put the score at 6-3. El Paso added three in the seventh, tying things up and sending the game into the eighth inning.
Dodge City started the inning off with two runs and ended the inning after allowing only one run, gaining the 8-7 victory to close out day one.
In the game,
Lindsey Karlin went 3-5 with two RBIs and one run. Of her three hits, two were doubles.
Beavers,
Danielle Aldana and
Taryn Garza all collected two hits, with Garza adding an RBI and crossing the plate twice.
Shelby Bowman picked up two RBIS along with
Kaitlyn Amaral's and
Heather Amen's one. Amaral, Bowman,
Adalynn Tanton and
Chantal Prester each posted one hit in the game.
Jordan Mecham picked up her fifth win of 2015 after fanning seven and allowing only seven runs (two unearned) on 12 hits. She faced 40 batters in the game.
Day two was all Conq as Dodge picked up a 5-2 win over Pratt and another 15-3 win over El Paso.
In the win over Pratt, Dodge City put up five runs throughout the first four innings and only allowed one run in the fourth and sixth innings to secure the victory.
Beavers, Aldana, Garza, Prester and Amen each posted two hits and Karlin and
Courtney Rettig posted one hit in the game. Beavers, Aldana, Garza and Rettig added one RBI apiece.
Mecham, now 6-2 on the 2015 season, struck out two and allowed two runs on 10 hits after facing 32 batters for the win.
Lauren Kelley earned her first save of the season after closing out the final inning with striking out two in three batters faced.
DC3 closed out the day with a commanding 15-3 victory over El Paso. Karlin excelled at the plate with a 4-4 performance while adding five RBIs, two doubles and two runs.
Beavers and Amen also added two hits in the game and Bowman and Garza added two RBIs for the Conqs. Aldana, Bowman, Garza, Amaral and
Mattison Johnson all posted one hit against EPCC.
Mia Trujillo (1-0) picked up her first win of the season after going strong for 4.1 innings, striking out two and giving up three unearned runs on three hits.
Lauren Kelley closed things up, finishing up the last -0.2 innings on the weekend.
DC3s Wednesday matchup with Colby has been postponed to March 17 at 1 p.m. Next, the Conqs will travel to Hutchinson on Friday, March 6 to take on the Blue Dragons at 2 and 4 p.m.
