Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kansas: DC3 softball advanced their record to 13-5 overall after a two-game sweep over Frank Phillips College yesterday at Legends Park in a home opener. The Conqs collected 21 hits throughout the games for a 7-0 victory in game one and 4-3 comeback win in game two.
Game one started slow on both sides, but the Conqs eventually started stringing hits together to post three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 7-0 victory.
Kaitlyn Amaral and
Courtney Rettig each had three hits in the game with Amaral posting two RBIs and a double and Rettig leading the team with three RBIs and a homerun.
Heather Amen also went 2-3 with one RBI in the game for the Conqs' effort. Rettig also led the team with six putouts, two assists and caught two runners stealing on the base paths.
Jordan Mecham slung a complete game, fanned five and allowed six hits on the day in 27 batters faced. The sophomore right-hander gave up no runs for the 7-0 shutout win that advanced her record to 8-2 on the season thus far.
Frank Phillips had the edge in the beginning of the second game after going up 3-0 in the third inning. The Conqs put some hits together in the sixth and took the lead 4-3 heading into the seventh, eventually resulting in the one-run lead and 4-3 victory.
Amaral went 3-2 against in the game with two doubles and one RBI in the game.
Taryn Garza went 2-3 at the plate and Rettig snagged another base hit. Four other Conqs had solo hits in the game and
Lindsey Karlin and
Shelby Bowman garnered RBIs as well.
Lauren Kelley started off in the circle, allowing three runs on seven hits before
Mia Trujillo took over the slinging for DC3. Trujillo (2-0) garnered the win after fanning one and allowing only one hit throughout 4.1 innings and 14 batters faced.
The Conqs will hit the road this weekend, heading to Barton Community College to take on Cougars on Saturday, March 14.
