Box Score 2 LIBERAL, Kansas: Yesterday, Dodge City baseball faced the sunshine and trekked down to Liberal, Kansas to take on Seward County in their second KJCCC matchup with the team. Just as in February, the teams found themselves equal, both taking one after the 3 p.m. doubleheader.
Dc3 took the first game 7-4 after coming back from a 4-0 deficit in the first four innings. The Conqs dropped game two 12-2 after Seward found their bats.
In game one, SCCC went up 4-0 in the first inning. DC3 stayed quiet until the fifth inning when they put up a big five runs and topped off the game with one more run in both the sixth and seventh to close out the game with a 7-4 win.
Johnny Balsamo,
Leno Ramirez and
Josh Williams led the team with two RBIs and two hits apiece.
Colbey Madewell and
Jason Nichols also went 2-4 with a run each and
Hayden Hutchison and
Max Laney were good for one hit each for Dodge City.
Cameron Brockhoff started off on the hill, pitching to 10 batters in one inning while striking out two and allowing four hits and four runs (one earned run).
Layne Downing (1-0) earned his first season win after closing down the final 6.0 innings. In 23 batters, he allowed four hits and fanned five while allowing no runs to score. This season, Downing owns 0.82 ERA and one save after 11.0 innings of work.
Seward went up early, scoring two in the first inning and one in the second before scoring two runs in each the third, fourth and fifth inning. Dodge answered with one run apiece in the second and third innings, but were unable to string hits together after that. Seward topped the game off with three runs in the eighth for the 12-2 decision.
Six Conqs had hits on the day and Nichols and
Frankie Valle each owned one RBI for the team.
Six pitchers saw the bump yesterday also, with
Anthony Bowmaker (1-2) earning the loss after giving up eight hits and five runs (four earned) while striking out four in 2.1 innings pitched.
Adam Rutz allowed three hits and two runs while striking out one in 1.2 innings.
Corey Land pitched third for an inning, allowing two runs on three hits before
Garrett Hammond took over.
Hammond walked one before shutting the next three down during his inning of work.
Phillip Albracht was solid for an inning, giving up no hits and
Austin Hammer closed down the game, allowing three runs on three hits while fanning one in 0.1 inning.
DC3 plays Brown Mackie at home today, March 11 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:05 p.m. at Cavalier Field in Dodge City, Kansas.
