Dodge City Softball Takes Two from Hutch Over the Weekend

DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge City softball completed the single day sweep over Hutchinson Community College last Friday after putting the Blue Dragons down 6-5 and 15-4 on the day.

In game one the Conqs scored first in the first inning, but Hutch evened things up in the second with a run of their own.  DC3 then busted the game open scoring two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to go up 6-1.  In the bottom of the sixth frame, Hutch tallied one and in a last minute seventh-inning effort to take the game, the Blue Dragons crossed three more before DC3 shut them down with a 6-5 decision.

Lindsey Karlin, Kaitlyn Amaral and Courtney Rettig all posted two hits in the game with Amaral and Rettig owning one RBI apiece.  Shelby Bowman led the team with two RBIs after roping a long two-run shot outside the fence.  DC3 collected nine total hits in the game.

Jordan Mecham tabbed the win, advancing her record to 7-2 so far in the 2015 campaign.  She sat down five and allowed only two hits throughout 6.1 innings of work.  Lauren Kelley garnered her second save of the season after allowing one hit throughout five batters of work as she closed out the final two outs of the game for Dodge.

DC3 owned game two from the start of the game, tallying two runs in the second and eight in the third to go up 10-0 before the Blue Dragons tallied one in the fourth.  Hutch then collected three more in the fifth to put the score at 10-4.

The Conqs shut down the game in the sixth inning after crossing five more runs and shutting down the opposition for the final 15-4 victory.

Kelley (1-2) tabbed her first win of the season after fanning two and allowing only five hits throughout 4.2 innings.  She allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, in 22 batters worked.  Mia Trujillo came in to close, striking out one and allowing no hits in 1.1 innings and five batters.

Ashley Beavers led the Conqs with a 4-5 performance at the plate, while owning one RBI.  Taryn Garza knocked two homeruns out in her 3-4 performance for seven RBIs in the game.  Amaral finished game two with a 3-5 performance at the plate with one RBI.  Karlin and Rettig also tabbed two hits for the Conqs while Chantal Prester and Bowman owned one hit apiece.

Next, Dodge City softball will play their first home game on Thursday, March 12 at 2 and 4 p.m. as they take on Frank Phillips College at Legends Park here in Dodge City, Kansas.
