Box Score 2 PORTALES, New Mexico: Dodge City baseball finished their road trip to New Mexico yesterday, closing out the long weekend with a 7-1 record to start the 2015 season. DC3 shut down the Greyhounds with 7-1 and 9-3 victories on the day.
In the first game, Dc3 struck first, but waited until the fourth inning to unleash their bats. They tallied one run in the fourth, and three in the fifth and seventh innings to take the win.
Cory Royer (1-0) picked up the win in the first game with a 7-1 victory after fanning eight and allowing only one hit on the day. He, along with the DC3 defense, kept ENMU to a .071 average at the plate while he was on the mound.
Garrett Hammond also pitched two innings for the Conqs, striking out four and allowing two hits.
Johnny Balsamo,
Merle Trueblood and
Frankie Valle each posted two hits on the day while
Tim Wakefield and
BJ Tieben each collected two RBIs for the Conqs.
Andrew Balderaz,
Josh Williams, Wakefield and Tieben all tabbed one hit apiece.
Eastern New Mexico put up more of a fight in game two with the 9-3 victory still going to Dodge City.
Both teams scored one to start the first inning. DC3 then struck in the third with three runs. ENMU answered with one run in the bottom of the frame, but DC3 continued to score, picking up two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth while allowing the Greyhounds only one more run in the fifth for the six-run win.
Jordan Doan and
Ricky Trammell each went 2-4 at the plate with Doan picking up his first triple of the season along with an RBI and a stolen base. Trammell also collected on one RBI after his two singles.
Josh Williams and
Jorden Fields each picked up a hit and RBI in the game while Trueblood,
Max Laney and Balderaz also tabbed a RBI in the game.
Cameron Brockhoff (1-0) tabbed the win after going strong for four innings and facing 18 batters in the game. He struck out two and allowed five hits throughout the game.

Corey Land each pitched an inning for the Conqs as well. Rutz and Land each picked up a strike out on the day.
