Region VI runner-up Conqs begin KJCCC play Wednesday at Neosho

DC3's James Newton
DODGE CITY, Kan. — Following a run to the 2015 Region VI Tournament championship game last season and a 9-1 start to the 2015-16 campaign, the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team is coming into KJCCC play with plenty of momentum as the Conquistadors open up conference at Neosho County on Wednesday in Chanute.

DC3 comes into Wednesday's KJCCC opener having won its previous six contests – five of those by double digits. The Conqs' only loss on the season has come to No. 11 Trintiy Valley 82- 80 on the road when a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out.

DC3 has four players averaging double figures led by Lorenzo Dillard at 18.2 points per game. He also leads the team in assists (5.2), 3-pointers made (17), 3-point percentage (53.1), free throws made (59) and free-throw percentage (84.3) while he's second in steals (1.2).

Also averaging double figures for the Conqs is the lone returnee from last season's team in James Newton at 13.1 points per game while he's also average 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals. Josh Boutte is averaging 12.9 points and a team-best 8.8 rebounds while Jeremy Treaudo is coming off the bench to average 11.0 points.

Neosho also entered KJCCC play with one loss at 7-1 (played Hutchinson Monday night to start conference). The one blemish on the Panthers' pre-KJCCC record is a 74-66 loss to Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Nov. 6 as they have won six games since that lone defeat.

DC3 and Neosho have played two common opponents – Labette (Neosho faced Labette three times in a nine-day span, winning all three games by an average of 22 points while DC3 defeated Labette 95-78) and On Point Academy (Neosho won 97-63 and DC3 won 96-39).

Neosho enters the game second in the conference in scoring at 96.4 points per game - led by 6-foot-8 sophomore post Richard Granberry at 17.1 points per game. He also leads the team in rebounding (9.0) and blocks (1.0) while also averaging 1.1 steals per contest.

Also averaging double figures for the Panthers is 6-foot-6 sophomore Freddie McSwain (12.1) and 6-foot-4 freshman Marc Moon (11.9).

The teams did not play last season and last met in December of 2013, a 114-103 Neosho win in Dodge City. Earlier in that season, however, DC3 defeated the Panthers 92-87.
