Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- A big push to start the second half by the Dodge City Community College men's basketball team allowed it to not only build a large lead, but to also to absorb a Northwest Kansas Tech run later in the half during a 78-65 victory Wednesday at the Dodge City Civic Center.
The Conquistadors (7-1) went on a 15-3 run to start the second half to build a 49-33 advantage over the Mavericks (4-4) - a lead that grew to as much as 24 when
Jeremy Treaudo completed a three-point play with 9:01 left in the half to make it 67-43.
While Northwest Kansas Tech never cut the lead to single digits, the Mavericks did get within 14 points with seven minutes left in the game and would get as close as 10 - something Dodge City coach
Kyle Campbell wasn't pleased with.
"
That's a good team. ... It's a good win and I'll take it," Campbell said. "Â ... It was just a lack of focus there for a bit. We are winning games, but we aren't where we want to be quite yet."It was a balanced scoring effort for the Conqs with
Lorenzo Dillard leading the way with 20 points to go along with six assists.
James Newton had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, Treaudo finished with 13 points and five rebounds,
Jamie Rutherford had 11 points and four rebounds and
Josh Boutte had 10 points and five rebounds.
While the Conqs shot 50 percent from the field (27-for-54) and 45.5 percent (10-for-22) from 3-point range, they were just 14-for-25 (56 percent) from the free-throw line and were outrebounded by the Mavericks 36-29 (including allowing 10 offensive rebounds).
Kairee Forte led Northwest Kansas Tech with 16 points.
The Conqs travel to take on North Platte 4 p.m. Saturday in Nebraska. Dodge City defeated the Knights 75-61 earlier this season in Dodge City.
