Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Conquistadors' suffocating defense made it look early on as if the Lamar Community College junior varsity may never score a point as the Dodge City men's basketball team jumped out to a 16-0 lead.
Dodge City eventually built a 53-19 halftime lead and cruised from there for a 99-66 win Friday in the Pizza Hut Classic at the Dodge City Civic Center.
"In the first seven to 10 minutes we had our press set up well and we basically were able to get anything we wanted," Dodge City coach
Kyle Campbell said. "That's the thing, when we are hooked up, we can get things going and we are pretty good."
The Conqs (5-1) held the Lamar JV to 23.5 percent shooting (8-for-34) in the first half while shooting 56.1 percent themselves (23-for-41) - including hitting 5 of 12 3-pointers.
Every player scored for Dodge City on Friday night, led by
Josh Boutte's 16 points, eight rebounds two steals and two blocks.
Jeremy Treaudo had 14 points and six rebounds,
Sam Edwards had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds,
Jamil Hood had 10 points and
Tate Skinner had nine points and a team-high seven assists.
The Conqs dominated the glass, outrebounding the Lamar JV 54-29 - including grabbing 20 offensive rebounds.
LaDarius Young led the Lamar JV with 23 points.
Dodge City closes out the Pizza Hut Classic 4 p.m. Saturday with Labette - a team that played Seward County tough Friday before the Saints pulled away for an 88-75 victory.
"We are going to have to rebound and defend like usual," Campbell said of facing Labette. "We also have to be locked in for 40 minutes. If we get our press set and we guard, things will take care of themselves."
Jonathon Cummings led Labette in the loss to Seward on Friday with 24 points and eight rebounds while Aaron Allen added 14 points and six boards. Charles Beauregard had a team-high 22 for Seward.
