Box Score FAYETTE, Missouri: Dodge City women's soccer (1-1) dominated the opposition last Friday to propel the Conqs to a 7-1 win over Central Methodist.
Sophomore
Kayla Turner snagged her first hat trick of the 2014 campaign over netting three goals and posting one assist. The forward put up eight shots on goal in 10 total shots during her 57 minutes of work.
The Conqs went down 1-0 early in the fourth minute of play, but it was not enough to keep them down throughout the game, as they would score three more goals in the first half and four in the second to garner the victory.
"The first 10 minutes was a poor showing of our capability, we couldn't string pass together, we couldn't defend intelligently, we were unorganized, much like last Saturday," commented head coach
Tim Romanello. "But the girls came together and really put it together, especially in the second half."
DC3 scored first in the 16
th minute off a shot by freshman
Kristina Trinceri.
Turner scored her first goal of the day in the 30
th minute off an assist by sophomore
Jessica Klemetson before Klemetson netted a goal as well in the 33
rd minute to close out the first half.
Things were quiet in the beginning of the second half, with the Conqs netting their first goal of the half in the 65
th minute after sophomore
Erica Ramos and Turner connected for a Ramos goal.
"If we can communicate, play to feet and stay organized defending, good things can happen," stated Romanello. "Ive been saying that all training camp, it finally came together for us here."
Turner then scored her second and third goal in the 70
th and 72
nd minutes with the second being assisted by freshman
Stephanie Yoder.
In the 84
th minute, freshman
Rachel VanBuskirk finished things up with the Conqs seventh and final goal of the day.
DC3 outshot the opposition 47-5 on the day while posting 26 shots on goal compared to CMUs two.
Freshmen Elie Bardi and
Elyssia Lucio split time in goal. Bardi faced two shots with one save while Lucio faced three shots, one of which was on goal for her to post one save.
"It's good to get our first win done and out of the way," finished Romanello. "The other night against NOC-Tonkawa, we didn't play well and still almost won."
"It says a lot about this team and their makeup."
DC3 will finish out this weekend in Independence, Missouri on Sunday, August 31 at 6 p.m. against MCC-Blue River.
Next weekend, the Conqs will take on Barton at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 and Hesston College at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 5.
