Box Score 2 LAMAR, Colorado:  Conquistador volleyball made their way to Lamar, Colorado this afternoon to take part in the Little Caesar Invitational hosted by Lamar Community College.  DC3 garnered a pair of wins to start the new season, defeating Bethany College JV first 3-1 in four sets before putting down tournament host Lamar 3-2 in a nail biting five sets.
The Conqs started things off going up 2-0 over Bethany, winning a close first set 26-24 and dominating in the second set 25-8.  Dodge City dropped the third set 20-25 before putting a victory in the books with a 25-20 decision on the last set.
Throughout the game, freshman 
Rachel Virbickis and sophomore 
Emily Slattery led the team in kills.  Virbickis had a near perfect game putting down 9-13 attempts while Slattery had six along with one solo blocks and three block assists.
Sophomores 
Ana Babovic, 
Darrie Rogers and 
Brandi Fairbanks all had two block assists for the Conqs as well.
Freshman 
Samantha Endres led DC3 with 12 big digs in game one while Alexis Sanches and 
Daisy Cheek put in 28 and 25 assists respectively.
"Everything we have been working on in practice came together," commented head coach 
Ashley Nehls.  "We really played with heart today and good things happen when teams play with heart."
Game two was no different for Dodge City. 
It was just as exciting for Conq fans with the team winning in five sets.  It was give-and-go throughout with DC3 taking the first set by a commanding 25-15, losing the second 21-25, taking the third 25-22, giving the second 24-26 and closing out the game with a five-set 15-13 win.
Against Lamar, freshman 
Hailee Hoskinson owned the net with 10 kills for the Conqs while Slattery and Fairbank had eight and five respectively.  Slattery posted two solo blocks in game two as well.
Sanches and Cheek held down the floor with 42 and 39 assists while Endres and Rogers posted 16 and 14 digs in the game.
The Conqs will continue tournament play tomorrow, August 23 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  In the first game, the Conqs will take on Cisco College and they will take on Trinidad State Junior College for the second.
