Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge City men's basketball opened up the Conq Classic and at home-play with a 80-73 victory over State Fair tonight, advancing to 3-0 on the season thus far.
Despite falling to a 36-34 deficit after the first half, the Conqs worked back with a 46-37 advantage in the second for the seven-point victory on the night.
The Conqs hit 39.3 from the field, 25.0 from three-point range and went 9-12 from the charity stripe in the first half alone.
DC3 went down 25-15 halfway through the first half, but worked back for the two-point gap heading into halftime. They outshot the opposition in the second with a 41.7 percentage from field goal range, 45.5 from three after hitting 5-11 and 61.1 from the free throw line to go up on the night.
The team opened up the second, evening the score on two good free throws by
EJ Eaves and kept going towards a seven-point lead after a big three by
Ameer Jackson with 15 minutes left to play.
They advanced to a 10-point lead two minute later, but allowed points off turnovers to get the better of them along with second chance points by the opposition, allowing State Fair back into the game.
SFCC outscored DC3 36-28 with points in the paint but on the night, Dodge City capitalized with 30 points off the bench.
Once Dodge took the lead in the second half, they did not give it up throughout the rest of the game. DC3 had a little comfort going into the final minutes, but neither team let up, giving fans a good show in the Civic Center.
Five Conqs hit double figure points on the day with
EJ Eaves leading the team with 20 points after hitting five from the field, 1-2 from 3-point range and going 9-13 from the charity stripe. He also owned five assists and two steals in 29 minutes of work.
Ameer Jackson was next for Dodge with 19 points after hitting 7-12 from field goal range and going 4-7 from long distance on the day.
Payton Pervier posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 boards on the day. He also led the team with five impressive blocks and owned two steals to help the effort.
Raheem Watts was good for 10 points and six rebounds along with one steal and one assist.
Brett O'Neil led the team with seven assists and four steals throughout while
George Brock owned 11 points after three from the field and two from long range.
The Conqs close out the Conq Classic tomorrow, November 8 at 7 p.m. when they take on Fort Scott in the Civic Center.
