The Conqs will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, May 2nd, against Colby for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Won 12-3 at Colby
After two scoreless innings to open the game, the Conqs fell behind in the bottom of the third as Colby tallied the first run of the contest. The Conqs tied the game up in the fourth with a
Riley Moore solo home run to open the inning. The lead flipped to the Conqs in the sixth as
Loren Sweat belted a two-run homer, then
Sophie Faidley added a two-run homer of her own, and
Avery McCloskey got into the mix with a three-run homer to put the Conqs up 8-1. Colby got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Conqs worked the bases loaded in the seventh, and with two outs,
Karen Galaviz blasted a grand slam to make it 12-3. The Conqs shut the door on the game in the bottom of the seventh, working around a two-out single by Colby to secure the 12-3 victory.
In the circle,
Karli George was strong again, giving up just two runs in 5.1 innings on two hits and one walk, while striking out seven to earn her 18th win.
Jordyn Boxberger tossed the final 1.2 innings, giving up just one run on four hits.
Offensively, the Conqs continued to have hot bats, recording 10 hits with five being home runs.
Cadie McCracken was 3-4 with a run scored and a double, while Faidley went 2-4 with a run scored, two RBI, and a home run. Sweat added a 2-3 game with two runs scored, two RBI, a home run, and a walk.
Game 2 – Won 6-2 at Colby
The Conqs grabbed the early lead with back-to-back singles to open the second, leading to a run as Colby had an error, also. A Faidley solo home run and an RBI single by McCloskey made it a 3-0 game for the Conqs in the top of the fifth, while McCloskey continued to stymie the bats of Colby inside the circle. The Trojans tallied two in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game but in the seventh, the Conqs got some insurance runs taking advantage of more Colby miscues to work lead to 6-2. In the bottom of the seventh, the Conqs' defense, behind the pitching of McCloskey, set Colby down in order, earning the 6-2 win.
McCloskey was spectacular in the circle for her 12th win of the season, throwing all seven innings, giving up just two runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out a career best 12.
The Conqs offense pounded out 11-hits and McCloskey helped lead the charge at the plate too with a 2-4 outing with a run scored and an RBI. Moore added a 2-4 game with two runs scored, while Sweat went 2-4 with two RBI.
