Box Score 2 Dodge City baseball stretched its win streak to five straight games as it took two at home over Pratt to complete the series sweep of the Beavers.
The Conquistadors earned 8-3 and 14-4 victories to improve to 20-25 on the season and 9-15 in KJCCC action. The Conqs stretched their current win streak to five and have won 15 of the last 17 against the Beavers.
The Conqs have just two series remaining in the regular season as they will host rival Garden City next, taking on the Broncbusters on Thursday, April 23rd, in a doubleheader slated for a noon start time. Then will wrap up the series with the Broncbusters on Saturday, April 25th, in Garden City.
Game 1 – Won 8-3 vs Pratt
After a scoreless first inning of action, the Conqs were the first to break through, scoring in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. A
Will Soto RBI double started the scoring after
Preston Harrison led off the second with a double of his own and came in to score on Soto's double. Pratt got on the board with a solo home run in the third, but the Conqs countered with two in the bottom of the third.
Angel Vazquez belted a solo home run in the third, and Harrison added an RBI triple in the inning. An RBI double by
Cameron Stukenborg made it 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth for the Conqs, but Pratt got on the board again in the fifth with a pair of runs to tighten up the contest at 5-3. A run in the fifth and two more in the sixth gave the Conqs more of a cushion as they shut down Pratt to secure the 8-3 victory.
On the mound,
Sam Spencer earned the win, throwing four strong innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks.
Dariel Luna capped the game with the final three innings and did not give up a run during his time on the mound.
Vazquez paced the 11-hit attack for the Conqs as he was 3-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, a double, and a home run. Harrison added a 3-3 game with two RBI, a run scored, two doubles, and a triple.
Game 2 – Won 14-4 vs Pratt (7 innings)
Conqs took the series finale out-hitting Pratt 13-5 on the way to a run-rule win over the Beavers. It didn't take long for the Conqs to grab the lead, scoring three in the bottom of the first inning off an RBI single from
Ben Longoria and a two-RBI triple from
Hunter Morgan. Pratt tightened the game up with a two-run homer in the second and then with another two-run homer in the third, Pratt grabbed a 4-3 lead. The lead held for Pratt until the bottom of the fourth when the Conqs worked back in front, starting with working the bases loaded. Vazquez delivered an RBI single to tie the game, and then a sacrifice fly by Longoria pushed the Conqs in front at 5-4. The bottom of the sixth saw the Conqs break the game up, scoring five, highlighted by a two RBI double from Morgan. After setting Pratt down in order at the top of the seventh, the Conqs continued to score in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four. After capitalizing on an error and a hit batter to score runs, the Conqs finished the game with a two RBI double by Soto to cap the game 14-4 in seven innings.
Aydin Ruiz earned the win in relief, throwing four scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and one walk.
Lane French tossed a solid three innings as the starter, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks.
Longoria led the Conqs 13-hit attack as he was 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Bynum Martinez in the leadoff spot was 3-3 with two runs scored and a double. Soto finished 2-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a double, while Morgan went 2-4 with four RBI, a double, and a triple.
