Softball Records 43 hits In Road Doubleheader Sweep of Lamar

Dodge City softball surpassed last season's win total on Monday with a pair of road victories against Lamar in Colorado, winning 22-1 and 14-6 for the 27th and 28th wins of the season. 

The Conquistadors improved to 28-12 on the season, the most wins under Head Coach Mike Viramontez, and marks the most wins since the 2005 season. 

The Conqs are scheduled for a doubleheader with Colby on Wednesday, April 1st, on the road for their next games, but the weather could possibly change the date of the matchup. 

Game 1 – Won 22-1 at Lamar (5 innings) 
After a scoreless first inning to open the day, the Conqs' offense had an outburst, scoring 11 runs in the second inning on 12 hits. Conqs had nine straight hits to open the second inning before recording an out, highlighted by a two-run homer from Camren Moses and a two-RBI triple by Harley Shoaf, leading to a 7-0 lead. Four more runs came in for the Conqs in the second as the Conqs led 11-0, and the lead just continued to grow throughout the contest. In the third, the Conqs plated two runs with Jordyn Boxberger notching an RBI triple. The fourth saw the Conqs score seven, starting with a leadoff solo home run by Dezarae Schmidt and a two-run homer by Avery McCloskey later in the inning, leading the way as the Conqs led 20-0. After tacking on two more runs in the fifth, the Conqs closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth as Lamra tallied a run on their only hit and two Conq errors, but the Conqs secured the 22-1 victory. 

Conqs out hit Lamar 23-1 in the victory, with all nine Conqs in the batting order recording a hit in the contest, as seven of the nine had a multi-hit game. Schmidt was 4-5 with three runs scored, three RBI, and a home run, while Shoaf was 4-4 with three runs scored, three RBI, a double, a triple, and a walk. Riley Moore added a 3-4 game with two runs scored and a walk, while Moses was 3-4 with four RBI, a home run, and two runs scored. Kloe Nelson added a 3-4 game with four RBI, three runs scored, three doubles, and a walk. Boxberger and McCloskey each had two hits. 

Karli George tossed three perfect innings, facing a minimum of nine batters, and struck out five. Shyann Clark finished the game, tossing the final two innings, giving up one unearned run on one hit and striking out two. 

Game 2 – Won 14-6 at Lamar 
The offensive punch continued early for the Conqs in game two as Boxberger belted a two-run homer and Schmidt drove in another run in the first, giving the Conqs an early 3-0 lead. Lamar responded with a run in the second and then two in the third to tie the game up at 3-3. Three singles in a row opened the fourth for the Conqs to get back on the board as Kaylee Kinsinger drove in a pair of runs on a hit. George added a two-run homer in the fourth, and the Conqs led 8-3, holding that advantage until the bottom of the fifth when Lamar tallied a run. In the sixth and seventh innings, the Conqs posted three runs in each inning. The sixth was highlighted by a two-run homer by George and an RBI single by Boxberger, while in the seventh, Boxberger drove in another run on a single and Schmidt drove in a pair of runs on a hit. Lamar made a small push in the seventh, scoring two runs, but the Conqs capped the ball game for the sweep with a 14-6 victory. 

The Conqs' offense pounded out 20 hits in the win, led by Schmidt, who was 5-5 with two RBI. George finished 3-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, a walk, and two home runs, while Moore added a 3-5 game with three runs scored. Boxberger chipped in a 3-5 game with three runs scored, four RBI, and a home run. Kinsinger had a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored. 

Boxberger picked up the win in the circle, tossing all seven innings.
