Baseball Falls to Cloud County In Home Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Dodge City baseball opened its third conference series of the season, hosting #4 Cloud County on Thursday with a pair of games. Cloud County controlled both, as the Conquistadors fell 13-0 and 7-4. 
 
The losses drop the Conqs to 12-19 on the season and 1-9 in KJCCC. The series with Cloud County will move to Concorida on Saturday, March 28th, with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm. 
 
Game 1 – Lost 13-0 vs Cloud County (5 innings) 
The day started rough for the Conqs as Cloud County had the first six batters reach safely on five hits and a walk, ultimately batting around in the inning and scoring five runs. The Conqs worked the bases loaded in the bottom of the first but were unable to score. In the second, Cloud County continued their offensive parade as they batted around again, scoring five on three hits, three walks, and a hit batter. Cloud County tallied another run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings while the Conqs, needing runs in the fifth, worked the bases loaded but were unable to score, falling 13-0 in five innings. 
 
Conqs had just five hits in the loss. Cameron Stukenborg was 1-2 with a double, while Lex Lummus, Angel Vazquez, Will Soto, and Ben Longoria each recorded a hit. 
 
Game 2 – Lost 7-4 vs Cloud County 
The second game of the day saw the first two innings without a run as both teams had runners in each frame. In the third, Cloud County grabbed the lead with two runs and then extended the lead with four more runs in the fourth, with eight going to the plate. Cloud County tacked on another run in the sixth while Conqs left the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings, before finally breaking through in the bottom of the ninth. Down to the final three outs of the game, the Conqs continued to fight, getting a leadoff single by Bynum Martinez to open the ninth, and he would work his way around and score on a wild pitch. The Conqs went on to score three more runs, including an RBI double from Soto, but fell short of a full comeback, dropping game two 7-4. 
 
Offense produced 13 hits in game two for the Conqs, with Martinez leading the way, going 3-4 with a run scored and a double. Preston Harrison, Soto, Longoria, and Stukenborg each were 2-5. 
 
Michael Bizier tossed a solid 5.1 innings while Dariel Luna and Cam Barrows finished out the game. Barrows threw two scoreless innings, striking out a pair.
