Box Score 2 Dodge City softball snagged a pair of wins on the road as they took on Otero for the second time in the last four days and swept the Rattlers for the second time behind 24-0 and 18-5 victories.
The Conquistadors, with the wins, improved to 10-6 on the season and outscored Otero 69-5 over the four games against the Rattlers.
The Conqs road stretch continues with a trip to Borger, Texas, for a doubleheader against Frank Phillips on Tuesday, March 3rd, and then they will open KJCCC play with a twinbill against rival Garden City on Saturday, March 7th.
Game 1 – Won 24-0 at Otero (5 innings)
Just like the matchups at home, the Conqs scored plenty and often on the day, not waiting long as they led the game off with a single and a walk, then a three-run homer from
Avery McCloskey. The Conqs went on to have six more hits and another walk in the first inning, scoring five more runs, highlighted by a two RBI triple from
Cadie McCracken. The lead expanded for the Conqs in the second with a two RBI double by
Karli George, and added another run to lead 11-0. In the third, the Conqs tallied three more and then four more in the fourth inning, including a two-run homer by George. The fifth inning was highlighted by RBI doubles from
Sophie Faidley and McCracken as the Conqs plated six runs and then went on to close out the game 24-0, in the fifth, as they had only seven base runners in the contest.
The Conqs pounded out 22 hits and drew eight walks in the victory.
Jordyn Boxberger had a monster game at the plate, going 4-5 with four runs scored, three RBI, and a double, while
Harley Shoaf added a 4-5 game with four RBI, two runs scored, and a double. George added a 3-4 game with four RBI, four runs scored, a walk, a home run, and two doubles. McCracken went 3-5 at the plate with four runs scored, three RBI, a walk, and two doubles. Faidley and McCloskey each recorded a pair of hits.
In the circle, McCloskey started the game tossing three scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and one walk, while striking out six to earn the win.
Shyann Clark finished the contest tossing two scoreless innings, giving up just four hits and a walk, with a strikeout.
Game 2 – Won 18-5 at Otero (6 innings)
The Conqs again set the tone early in game two as
Riley Moore belted a solo home run to open the contest, but the Conqs gave up their first runs to Otero over the series in the bottom of the first as the Rattlers scored a run to even up the game at 1-1. In the second inning, George belted her second home run of the day to make it 3-1, and the Conqs went on to add three more runs in the second. Three more runs came across the plate in the third for the Conqs to lead 9-1, but Otero answered by matching the Conqs in the inning, scoring three in the bottom of the frame. A two RBI single by
Dezarae Schmidt in the fourth extended the Conqs lead to 11-4 before Otero tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Conqs cemented the game in their favor in the sixth with seven more runs, including a two-run home run by Boxberger and an RBI triple from
Kloe Nelson. The Conqs then shut the door on the contest with a one-two-three defensive sixth inning, earning the 18-5 win.
Once again, the Conqs had an offensive outburst, notching 21 hits in the win. Moore paced the Conqs in the game, going 3-5 with four RBI, two runs scored, two triples, and a home run.
Loren Sweat was 3-5 with three runs scored, while Shoaf, Schmidt, George, Nelson, Boxberger, McCloskey, and McCracken each had two hits.
George picked up the win in the circle, tossing three innings, giving up four runs on four hits, two walks, and a hit batter, while striking out six. Boxberger capped the game, throwing the final three innings, giving up just one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out three.
