Dodge City women's basketball bounced back last week with a pair of wins over Independence and Seward County to improve to 16-1 on the season and 11-1 in Jayhawk Conference play.
The Conquistadors picked up a 61-54 road win over Independence and capped the week with a 76-61 victory over Seward County.
The Conqs moved up one spot in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings, checking in at #3, and have been ranked in the top four all season long. The ranking is the 21st straight poll that the Conqs have been featured in the Top 10, as the Conqs have been ranked in 51 of the last 52 rankings. Two other KJCCC schools continue to be ranked alongside the Conqs as Butler moved up to #8 and Hutchinson moved to #18, while Coffeyville continued to receive votes.
Offensively, the Conqs continue to be one of the top teams in the NJCAA and lead the KJCCC in several categories. Conqs are averaging 78.4 points per game on 45.5% shooting, ranking 18th and 12th in the NJCAA, with the three-point shot being a key piece to the offense. On the season, the Conqs have made 203 three-pointers, the most in the NJCAA, as they make 11.9 per game on 35.7 attempts per game, which led the NJCAA. Conq's three-point field goal percentage ranks eighth (35.7%). The ball distribution and ball movement continue to lead the Conqs offense with 20.3 assists per game ranking fifth in the NJCAA.
Conqs have been stout on defense throughout the season, holding teams to 53.7 points per game on just 35.1% shooting, as the Conqs force 19.9 turnovers per game by their opponents on the season.
The second round of conference play continues for the Conqs on Wednesday, January 21st, as they host Barton at 5:30 pm, and then the Conqs will travel to Arkansas City to take on Cowley on Sunday, January 25th, at 2:00 pm.
