Women's Basketball Stretches Home Win Streak to 33-Straight With Win Over Seward County

Dodge City women's basketball wrapped up the first run through Jayhawk conference play by going 11-1 in conference play after a 76-61 win at home over Seward County. 

The victory moves the Conquistadors to 16-1 overall on the season and was their 33rd consecutive win at home. 

After trading a bucket to start the contest and then trailing 4-2 the Conqs went on a 16-0 run, holding the Saints of Seward County off the scoreboard until just over two minutes left in the first quarter. The Conqs spread the offense around early and led 20-8 after the first 10 minutes of action. A pair of layups pushed the lead to 16 early in the second stanza, and the lead made its way to 20 after a Manuela Piljevic layup with 6:40 left in the first half. The Conqs carried a 43-19 advantage into halftime after leading by as many as 24 in the first half. 

Seward County didn't go away as the Saints made a run to cut into the Conqs lead behind a 20-12 first five minutes of the second half. Ultimately, the third quarter saw Seward tally 32 points, but the Conqs remained in front 64-51 entering the fourth quarter going on to keep the Saints at a distance to secure the 76-61 win. 

For the 12th time this season, the Conqs shot 45+% for a game, hitting that mark right on the dot, while also recording a season high seven blocks and season best 44 rebounds, as they outrebounded Seward County by 13. 

Piljevic had her second 20+ point performance of the season, finishing with 22 points on 9-16 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Saje Evans had her fourth double-digit performance in the last five games, recording 13 points along with five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Jordi Perry recorded her first double-digit performance of her Conq career with 11 points on 3-3 shooting and 2-2 free throws, while adding six rebounds and three assists. 

The second time through KJCCC play starts on Wednesday, January 21st, at home for the Conqs as they take on Barton at 5:30 pm.
