Dodge City women's basketball moved to 14-1 on the season last week with a 1-1 week of competition, picking up a win at home over Garden City and suffering a tough loss at #14 Butler.
The Conquistadors started the week with a 67-60 win over Garden City at home and then fell 72-58 at #14 Butler to cap the week, moving to 14-1 and 9-1 in KJCCC action. The Conqs' 14-game win streak to open the season is the second-longest win streak to open a season in school history.
In the latest NJCAA Division I rankings, the Conqs slipped down to the #4 spot, staying in the Top five where they have been ranked all season. The ranking marks 20-straight polls featured in the Top 10, while being ranked in 50 of the last 51 rankings.
Conqs' offense has been strong on the season, averaging 79.7 points per game, which leads the KJCCC and ranks 16th in the NJCAA. The Conqs are shooting 46.2% from the field (12th in NJCAA) and 36.6% from three-point range (6th in the NJCAA), as the three-point shot continues to be a key piece of the offense, averaging 12.5 made threes per game on 34.1 attempted threes per game, both of which led the NJCAA, as the Conqs have hit 186 three-pointers, the most in the NJCAA. Conqs continue to share the fall well, averaging 21.2 assists per game, ranking fourth in the NJCAA.
Defensively, the Conqs are holding teams to 53.2 points per game, which ranks 19th in the NJCAA, as teams are shooting just 35.4% and only 25.8% from three-point range against us.
The Conqs will wrap up the first round of KJCCC contests this week as they take on Independence on Wednesday, January 14th, and then take on Seward County at home on Saturday, January 17th.
