Volleyball Falls in Four Sets On Road Against #12 Colby

September 18, 2025

Box Score For the eighth time this season, the Dodge City volleyball team lined up against a team ranked in the Top 20 nationally, and for the second straight match, it was a conference opponent as they took on #12 Colby on the road.

The Conquistadors had a solid start to the night, taking the first set, but ultimately fell 3-1 in the contest to Colby (25-21, 16-25, 23-25, 15-25). The losses drop the Conqs to 8-8 on the season and 2-2 in KJCCC action.

An early 3-0 run in the first set by the Conqs gave them a 6-4 advantage, and that lead would work to an 11-7 margin leading to a Colby timeout. The Trojans would go on a run to tighten the setup at 13-12 and then again at 17-16, but the Conqs answered back and took the first set 25-23. Set two saw Colby jump out to an early lead, working to a 12-6 lead and then 18-8, and even 20-8. However, despite the large deficit, the Conqs rattled off five-straight points and made a late push. The late push from the Conqs wasn't enough as they dropped the second set. In the third set, the Conqs took the early lead and went up 12-7, leading to a Colby timeout. Out of the timeout, the Trojans put together a 6-0 run to take a 13-12 lead. The Trojans would have the Conqs on their heels the rest of the set, taking it 25-23 to lead the match 2-1. An 8-2 start to the fourth set put things in favor of Colby, and the Trojans never allowed the Conqs to get back into the set, winning the match with a 25-15 fourth set.

Amariah White, in the loss for the Conqs, had a strong performance as she recorded 11 kills on a .455 hitting percentage, adding two block assists. Allison Mason chipped in 12 kills and five digs on the night, while Kayla Cantrill finished with six kills and 13 digs. Sunni Skipps was strong with her serve, recording six aces. Chelsea Durbridge had 32 assists with four digs in the match.

Conqs start a three-match homestand and have four of the next five matches at home as conference play continues. Next up, the Conqs clash with rival Garden City on Saturday, September 20th at 6:30 pm.
