Dodge City men's golf is gearing up for its fall season, and several current Conquistadors, along with multiple former Conqs, hit the links in Garden City, Kansas, at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course, competing in the 2025 High Plains Amateur.
In total, 15 current and former Conqs were in action over the two-day tournament, and in a field of nearly 60 golfers, four of those 15 Conqs posted a Top 12 finish.
Current sophomore,
Joao Iglesias, won the tournament, finishing with a 9-under par score of 135 behind rounds of 69 and 66. He's only the third Conq to win the event, following Thanaphon Suwannapratheep's victory in 2023 and Alex Toing's title claim in 2014.
Former Conq, Cooper Scheck finished three strokes behind him, tying for second with a 138 (-6) score with a pair of 69 rounds. Scheck competes now at Fort Hays State University and is in his senior season.
Eight other current Conqs were in action at the High Plains Amateur, joining their teammate Iglesias, who won the event. A pair of freshmen had a strong showing, both finishing with a score of 146 (+2) to tie for 12th place.
Aidan Robinson carded rounds of 71 and 75, while
Jacob Egan tallied rounds of 74 and 72. Sophomore
Drew Heinz notched a tie for 23rd-place finish, shooting a 150 (+6) carding rounds of 74 and 76. Freshman
Prakrit Jumpla tied for 26th place with a score of 151 (+7) with rounds of 76 and 75, while freshman
Panyapat Khantiyoo placed 36th with a score of 155 (+11), shooting rounds of 78 and 77. Also, freshmen William Davies and
AJ Peters were in action, finishing tied for 39th (158 (+14)) and 46th (162 (+18), respectively, as they posted rounds of 85 and 73, and 79 and 83, respectively. Sophomore,
Knowlyn Egan, finished tied for 41st with a score of 159 (+15), shooting rounds of 77 and 82.
Five more former Conqs were in action along with Scheck. Scheck was joined by his Fort Hays State University teammates in
Colby Hays and
Chutithep Rungpajchim, who placed 19th and tied for 26th. Hays posted a score of 148 (+4), shooting rounds of 69 and 79, and Rungpajchim finished with a score of 151 (+7) score posting rounds of 78 and 73. Three other former Conqs were in action as Trenton Specht, Cole Streck, and Ty Wilson were all also in action. Specht finished tied for 26th with a score of 151 (+7), shooting rounds of 74 and 77, while Streck placed 33rd with a score of 152 (+8) with rounds of 78 and 74. Current Conqs women's golf head coach Wilson tied for 34th place with a. 154 (+10) score, shooting rounds of 79 and 75.
The 2025 fall season starts for the Conqs on September 15th-16th when they compete at the Central Kansas Classic in McPherson, Kansas.
