Dodge City men's golf uses strong finish to earn 35th straight trip to NJCAA National Championship after finishing fourth as a team at the Central District Championship in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Conquistadors started the competition at Tiffany Greens Golf Course with a rough first round going 318 (+30) sitting in eighth place after the first round. The Conqs would overcome the rough first round with a 299 (+11) in the second and third rounds to finish with a 916 (+52) to take fourth.
Once again
Rhys Nicholas continued to lead the Conqs as he would finish in third place just one stroke back from first. Nicholas posted a score of 219 (+3) posting rounds of 75, 69, and 75. The top-five finish is his third straight and eighth top-10 finish this year.
Colby Hays would record the second-highest finish for the Conqs as he tied for 14th with a score of 228. He posted rounds of 80, and 76 and his best round of 72 in the third round.
A score of 234 was recorded by
Joao Iglesias as he tied for 23rd place posting rounds of 81, 78, and 75, while
Drew Heinz finished tied for 29th with a score of 236 recording rounds of 82, 76, and 78.
Luke Shelton finished the Conq performances at districts as he finished 36th with a score of 245 carding rounds of 89, 79, and 77.
The Conqs will compete at a familiar course for the NJCAA Division I National Championship as the tournament will be hosted in Newton, Kansas at Sand Creek Station Golf Course on May 13th-16th.
