Men's Golfers Colby Hays & Luke Shelton Earn Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar Honors

July 29, 2025

The Dodge City men's golf team enjoyed a strong year, matching their best finish at the NJCAA Division I Nationals with a seventh-place team finish. The team also performed well in the classroom.

A pair of Conquistadors earned high academic honors as they were named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars. Colby Hays and Luke Shelton were two of only 17 NJCAA athletes to earn the academic honors.

To be eligible for the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors an individual at the NJCAA level must receive their associate's degree and in their last year of eligibility at the NJCAA level, along with having participated in 50% or more of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average of under 77, and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. Recipients must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college.

Both Hays and Shelton were on the team that competed at nationals for the Conqs in the spring, as they finished 47th and 56th individually, and the team placed seventh. This marked the Conqs' 35th consecutive appearance at nationals.

Hays and Shelton will continue their golf careers after two seasons with the Conqs, as they are both set to transfer to four-year schools. Both will compete at the NCAA Division II level, as Hays will transfer to Fort Hays State University, and Shelton will attend Colorado State University-Pueblo.
