Football Adds Trio of Coaches to Staff Ahead of 2025 Season

As the 2025 football season looms close, second-year Head Coach Ryan Lusby has solidified his coaching staff for the upcoming year with a few additions. 

Joining the Conquistador's coaching staff are MJ Oliver, LeJacque Martin, and Stephen McFarland. Oliver comes from Central Michigan University and will serve as linebackers coach for the Conqs, while Martin comes to Dodge City from the University of Georgia and will coach the defensive line. McFarland comes to Dodge City after working with the Hutchinson Community College football program and will be a volunteer defensive assistant and equipment manager. 

Oliver made his way to Dodge City after serving as a defensive staff assistant from 2023-25 and 2020-21at his alma mater, Central Michigan University. During 2021-2023, he served as linebackers coach at Muskingum University in Ohio. During his time at Central Michigan, Oliver worked with linebackers and the defensive line, while assisting with team meetings, film sessions, and special teams' drills and coordination. At Muskingum, he helped the program to five wins in 2021, the most since the 2003 season, and finish at the top of the conference. The former Central Michigan Chippewa suited up for them from 2015-2019 and was a four-year letterman at linebacker. Oliver finished his college career with 193 total tackles (116 solo), 13 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 46 career games and earned second-team All-MAC honors his senior year. The Detroit, Michigan, native earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Michigan in 2019.

Martin comes to Dodge City by way of Georgia, as he spent the past five years at the University of Georgia working as Player Development Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning intern. During his time at Georgia, the Bulldogs won two SEC championships (2022 & 2024) and back-to-back national championships in 2022 and 2023. His coaching career started in 2014 when he was a student assistant linebackers coach at his alma mater, Wingate University. He was also an assistant defensive line coach and assistant special teams coordinator in 2019 at Wingate. Before his time at Wingate University in 2019, he was the defensive line coach at Madison County High School in Georgia from 2016 to 2018, while in 2020, the Georgia native served as the defensive line coach at the University of Pikeville, an NAIA school in Kentucky. In college, he played at the junior college level at Sierra College in California, where he recorded 53 tackles as an outside linebacker in his sophomore season (2012), leading to his transferring to Wingate University (NCAA DII). In two seasons at Wingate, he finished with 28 tackles in 17 games. Martin earned his Bachelor of Science in Sports Science from Wingate University in 2016.

McFarland joins the Dodge City staff after previously serving as equipment manager and helping coach several positions at Hutchinson Community College from 2019 to 2021. He played high school football at Hutchinson High School and was a walk-on at Independence Community College in 2021.

The Conqs are set to kick off the 2025 football season on the road on Saturday, August 23rd, in Texas against Tyler Junior College. The first home of the season for the Conqs will be Saturday, September 20th, against Iowa Western.
