MJ Oliver enters his first season on the coaching staff for Dodge City football, serving as an assistant coach overseeing the linebackers.
Oliver comes to Dodge City after working on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Central Michigan University, where he was a defensive staff assistant from 2023-25 and 2020-21. During 2021-2023, he served as linebackers coach at Muskingum University in Ohio. During his time at Central Michigan, Oliver worked with linebackers and the defensive line, while assisting with team meetings, film sessions, and special teams’ drills and coordination. At Muskingum, he helped the program to five wins in 2021, the most since the 2003 season, and finish at the top of the conference. He helped them achieve another five seasons in 2022, breaking school records and competing to be a top-half team in the conference.
The former Central Michigan Chippewa suited up for them from 2015-2019 and was a four-year letterman at linebacker. Oliver finished his college career with 193 total tackles (116 solo), 13 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 46 career games. His senior year saw Oliver earn second-team All-MAC honors after recording 87 tackles (49 solo), nine tackles for loss in 14 starts. During the 2019 season, Oliver helped the Chippewas finish 8-6 with a berth in the MAC Championship Game and an appearance in the New Mexico Bowl.
In high school, Oliver earned first-team all-state linebacker as a senior at Detroit Cass Tech High School. He helped guide Cass Tech to a state title in 2012 and a state finals appearance in 2013, two Public School League titles, and a 25-2 record over his final two seasons.
The Detroit native earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Michigan in 2019.
