Men's Golf Competes at Firekeeper Open

The spring season continued to feature some top-flight competition that the Dodge City men's golf team would compete against on the golf course and the Firekeeper Open in Mayetta, Kansas was no different with a field of 19 schools with only two NJCAA teams and the rest being NCAA DII programs. 
 
The Conquistadors would record a three-round score of 891 (+27) to finish 11th as a team and were just four strokes out of finishing as high as sixth place. The Conqs steadily improved as the tournament continued shooting a 300 in the first round then a 297 in the second round and capping the tournament with their best team score in a round with a 294. 
 
Rhys Nicholas continued his strong sophomore year for the Conqs as he led the charge finishing tied for seventh place recording his fifth Top 10 individual finish this year and sixth Top 15 finish. He posted a three-round score of 215 behind a pair of -1 under rounds of 71 and then finished the tournament with a 73. 
 
Joao Iglesias had the second-highest finish for the Conqs placing 20th with a 221 score, carding rounds of 74, 72, and 74. 
 
A score of 227 earned Colby Hays a finish of 56th place shooting rounds of 76, 76, and 75, while Todd McKie was just a stroke behind him at 228 to finish 61st posting rounds of 79, 74, and 75. 
 
Drew Heinz grabbed a 74th-place finish with a 230 score as he recorded rounds of 76, 78, and 76, and Luke Shelton finished out the Conq performances with a score of 235 shooting rounds of 83, 79, and 73 to place 92nd. 
 
Conqs will be back on the course on Wednesday, April 9th when they make a quick trip west for some match play action against rival Garden City.
