Box Score Dodge City baseball picked up a late-season non-conference tilt traveling to Nebraska to take on McCook for a single nine-inning contest and the Conquistadors picked up a 9-4 victory.
The Conqs with the win improved to 29-22 on the season with the victory.
Early control fell the way of the Conqs as they worked bases runners on without a hit in the first and on a wild pitch scored the first run of the game. The lead grew for the Conqs in the third as
Jose Alfonso belted a two-run homer and then scored two more runs for a four-run output in the third to lead 5-0. A home run in the bottom of the fourth put McCook on the board but the Conqs had a quick answer as
MD Conner notched an RBI double in the fifth to make it 6-1. In the sixth, the Conqs scored on an RBI single by
Josh McClintock and then added another run on an RBI single by
Juan Concepcion in the seventh to lead 8-1. The bottom of the eighth saw McCook tally a pair of runs making it 8-3 entering the final frame. The ninth inning saw the Conqs get on the board again as
Tyler Jensen recorded an RBI double and in the bottom of the ninth McCook would get a run but the Conqs would limit them to just one to secure the 9-4 victory.
On the mound,
Wyatt Sadleir was strong for the Conqs tossing six innings to earn the win giving up just one run on four hits, one walk, and one hit batter while striking out eight.
Lane Benavides tossed two solid innings of relief while
Javier Pena finished the game throwing the ninth inning.
At the plate it was Conner pacing the Conqs offense as he was 3-4 with two runs scored, two doubles, and an RBI. McClintock was 2-5 with an RBI and stolen base, while Alfonso finished 1-2 with three runs scored, two RBI, a walk, a home run, and three stolen bases.
The Conqs will wrap up the regular season with their final KJCCC series of the year taking on Seward County as the Conqs will host Seward County on Thursday, May 1st for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm and then travel to Liberal on Saturday, May 3rd for a twin bill.
