Dodge City men's golf had one of their best performances of the season as they competed at the Region 6 Championship in Newton, Kansas at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
The Conquistadors would post a team score of 882 (+18) to finish in second place only two strokes out of the top spot but eight strokes better than third. The Conqs opened the tournament with a 295 and then had the lowest team round in the second round with a -5 under 283. The Conqs would wrap up the tournament shooting a 304 in the third round.
Once again leading the Conqs on the links was the play of
Rhys Nicholas who continues to play exceptionally as he would finish tied for first with a 211 (-5) score. He would go into a playoff against Charlie Box of Hutchinson and fall in the playoff in two holes. Nicholas would have an even par or better round in all three rounds posting rounds of 69, 70, and 72.
Joao Iglesias and
Luke Shelton for the second straight tournament would both finish in the Top 10 as they both tied for sixth place after posting a three-round score of 224 each. Iglesias tallied rounds of 76, 70, and 78, while Shelton notched rounds of 74, 72, and 78.
Colby Hays tied for 12th place finishing with a 227 score after recording rounds of 76, 75, and 77.
Drew Heinz was one stroke behind his teammate at 228 and tied for 14th place as he posted rounds of 76, 75, and 77.
Blake Strong,
Winston Knobloch, and
Knowlyn Egan all competed as individuals for the Conqs and finished tied for 18th, tied for 22nd, and 25th, respectively. Strong scored 230 with rounds of 77, 78, and 75, while Knobloch finished with a 231 score behind rounds of 78, 78, and 75. Egan posted rounds of 81, 80, and 76 to finish with a 237 score.
Up next the Conqs are back in action on April 28th-29th competing at the NJCAA Plains District Championships in Kansas City, Missouri at Tiffany Greens Golf Course.
