Four more national qualifying performances along with a new school record led the Dodge City track and field team as they competed against some top-flight competition at the KT Woodman Classic hosted by Wichita State.
Day one of action saw a pair of great performances by the Conquistadors in the distance races.
Josue Vega who competed at nationals in the indoor season in the 5000-meter run posted a time of 14:34.36 in the same event at the KT Woodman Classic to qualify for outdoor nationals. His time earned him fifth place out of 30 runners.
To cap Friday's day of competition
Ivy Washington earned sixth place in the 10000-meter run with a time of 39:33.68 and her sub-40-minute time punched her ticket to the NJCAA outdoor nationals in Hutchinson.
On Saturday two more tickets to nationals were earned by the Conqs along with a school record and several other top-flight performances.
Olivia Leatherman raced her way to a time of 14.59 with legal wind in the 100-meter hurdles and earned a trip to nationals while finishing tenth in the event. The time of 14.59 also broke the previous school record of 14.61.
Deven Bolton and
Brenden Carter competed in the invitational portion of the men's high jump, and each would finish with a leap of 2.04 meters (6'08.25") earning sixth and ninth place respectively. Bolton earned his way to nationals with his performance, while Carter had already punched his ticket to nationals in the event earlier in the outdoor season.
In the 110-meter hurdles,
Kasey Kopetic recorded a time of 14.24 to finish fourth out of 34 runners, while
Albert House in the same event had a time of 14.25 to place fifth. House also took ninth out of 40 runners in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.03, a time that is less than one second off national qualifying time.
Bianca Gleim took fifth out of 66 runners in the women's 400-meter run behind a time of 56.30 and was less than one second off the national qualifying time.
The Conqs are back in action to continue the outdoor season on Thursday, April 24th at the Alex Francis Classic hosted by Fort Hays State University.
