Softball Takes Two Over Pratt On The Road

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Dodge City softball battled their way to a pair of road wins in KJCCC action beating Pratt 8-4 in eight innings and claiming game two 5-1 for the season series sweep of the Beavers of Pratt. 

The Conquistadors with the two road wins moved to 22-20 on the season marking the most wins since 2019 and improved to 14-10 in KJCCC action. The wins also give the Conqs seven in a row in the series against Pratt, while the Conqs have won 31 of the last 32 meetings against the Beavers. 

Back on the road for the Conqs for their next action as they travel to Goodland to take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Wednesday, April 16th. 

Game 1 – Won 8-4 at Pratt (8 innings)
The Conqs would fall behind early on the road as Pratt tagged the Conqs for three runs in the bottom of the first. In the top of the third, the Conqs broke through tying the game up with three runs as Elly Tancayo plated the first run on an RBI single then Rylie Miller would record an RBI single and Josie Oakley would reach on an error to bring in another run for the Conqs tying the game at 3-3. The fifth would see the Conqs snag the lead for the first time on the day as Oakley brought in Riley Moore on an RBI single but in the bottom of the sixth Pratt tallied a run to tie the game. Tied after seven the game would go into the eighth inning and the Conqs regained the lead scoring four. Tancayo blasted a three-run homer and Whitley Cash followed with a solo home run. In the bottom of the eighth, the Conqs worked around a hit batter and secured the 8-4 win. 

Galaviz led a 12-hit attack for the Conqs as she was 3-5 with two runs scored. Tancayo finished 2-5 with two runs scored, four RBI, and a home run, while Cash was 2-4 with a run scored, an RBI, a walk, and a home run. Oakley added a 2-4 game with an RBI. 

In the circle, Jordyn Boxberger earned another win tossing all eight innings giving up just four runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out three. 

Game 2 – Won 5-1 at Pratt
The Conqs got on the board first in game two with a run in the second inning working the bases loaded and an RBI groundout by Galaviz gave the Conqs a 1-0 advantage. In the top of the fourth, the Conqs tacked on two runs as Galaviz drove in a run on a single and Cash brought in another run on a groundout to make it 3-0. The bottom of the fifth saw Pratt breakthrough with a run but only one and the Conqs countered in the sixth with two more as Galaviz had an RBI double and Cash an RBI single in the inning. The Conqs set Pratt down in order in the sixth and then worked around a walk and single in the seventh to solidify their victory 5-1 on the road. 

A quartet of Conqs had a multi-hit game as the Conqs recorded 13 hits in the win. Once again, Galaviz and Cash were at the forefront of the Conqs offense. Galaviz was 2-4 with two runs scored, a double, and three RBI, while Cash was 3-4 with two RBI. Kaylee Kinsinger added a 2-3 game with two runs scored and Tancayo was 2-4. 

Frankie Martens was stellar in the circle tossing a complete game, giving up just one run in seven innings on five hits and five walks.
