Box Score 2 It was a pair of offensive slug fests to start the series against Colby for Dodge City baseball as the Conquistadors fell just short on the day dropping two games 14-10 and 14-13.
The losses drop the Conqs to 18-13 on the season and 4-10 in KJCCC action. The Conqs will wrap up the series with the Trojans of Colby on Saturday, March 29th starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Lost 14-10 vs Colby
The Conqs would fall behind early to start the day as Colby plated two runs in the first inning and added five more in the second to lead 7-0. In the bottom of the second, an RBI single by
Jose Alfonso got the Conqs on the board but Colby countered in the top of the fourth with a run to lead 8-1. The bottom of the fourth saw the Conqs get right back into the game with six runs to draw within one run.
Juan Concepcion started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run, then Alfonso had a two-RBI double, and
Bynum Martinez blasted a three-run home the next at-bat. Colby would however continue to score tallying three in the fifth and three more in the sixth, while the Conqs got only two in the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh falling 14-10.
In the loss, the Conqs had 12 hits with a 3-3 game by Alfonso who had a double along with three RBI, a walk, and two runs scored.
Ben Longoria added a 2-2 game with three runs scored, an RBI, two walks, and a home run. Concepcion added a 2-3 game with three RBI, a run scored, three RBI, a walk, a double, and a home run.
Game 2 – Lost 14-13 vs Colby
The offense got rolling early for the Conqs with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first innings on a two-RBI single by Longoria. After Colby tied the game in the second inning with two runs the Conqs countered with seven in the bottom of the second starting with a
Jaxen Derry two-run home run. Concepcion and
MD Conner notched an RBI single in the inning, while Alonso had a two-RBI base hit as the Conqs led 9-2 after two innings. Each team would get a run in the third inning then Colby plated five runs in the fourth and two in the sixth tying the game at 10-10. A
Josh McClintock RBI single in the bottom of the sixth swung the lead back to the Conqs until the ninth when Colby plated four runs to move in front. The Conqs had a chance in the bottom of the ninth but only scored two falling just short 14-13 having the tying run on the base pads.
Conqs had 13 hits in the loss led by Alfonso who was 4-5 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Derry finished 2-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while Concecpion added a 2-5 game with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.
