Baseball Picks Up 13th Win In Non-Conference Tilt With McCook

March 12, 2025

Box Score Dodge City baseball stepped back out of KJCCC play for an early week non-conference tilt on Tuesday and would earn a 13-7 win over McCook.

The win moves the Conquistadors to 13-6 on the season and 11-3 at home.

The Conqs opened the day by setting McCook down in order in the top of the first behind the pitching of Manuel Burguesa and then scored a run capitalizing on an error by McCook. McCook snagged the lead in the top of the second with a pair of hits and two walks taking a 2-1 lead, but it would be short-lived as the Conqs countered with two in the bottom of the second. Conqs tacked on another in the third on a sacrifice fly by Cory Chostner. McCook drew within one at 4-3 with a solo home run in the fifth but the Conqs got a pair of runs on RBI singles from Josh McClintock and Juan Concepcion in the bottom of the sixth and then a solo home run by Chostner in the seventh to lead 7-4. McCook drew back within one run with two runs in the top of the eighth but again the Conqs had an answer as they would bat around in the bottom of the eighth and score six runs. The Conqs would give up a run in the ninth but go on to secure the 13-7 win.

On the mound, Burguesa picked up the win by tossing five innings giving up three runs on two walks, a hit batter, and three hits while striking out six.

Josh McGuin had a three-hit day going 3-5 with an RBI, run scored, and stolen base, while Concepcion added a 2-4 showing with two runs scored, a hit by pitch, an RBI, and a stolen base. Jose Alfonso finished the day 2-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, two stolen bases, and a hit by pitch. Chostner was 2-2 on the day with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored, a walk, and a hit by pitch.
