Box Score 2 Dodge City softball got back on track after a tough weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Frank Phillips at home winning 11-7 and 15-5 in five innings.
The Conquistadors with the win moved to 8-12 on the season and 6-2 at home.
The Conqs will have plenty of home cooking throughout the week as they will host Pratt on Wednesday, March 12th for KJCCC action. On Thursday, March 13th the Conqs will be back in action at home against Dakota College at Bottineau and then will host Fort Hays Tech Northwest over the weekend.
Game 1 – Won 11-7 vs Frank Phillips
The day started a little rough for the Conqs as Frank Phillips sent eight to the plate in the top of the first inning and would score four runs to take the early lead. The Conqs started to push back in the bottom of the first as
Whitley Cash and
Anistyn Marcotte each had RBI singles to make it a 4-2 contest. Frank Phillips added another run in the top of the second inning to lead 5-2 but the Conqs would grab the lead in the bottom of the second by batting around and scoring seven. In the second a three-run home run by
Riley Moore highlighted the frame for the Conqs.
Karen Galaviz belted a solo home run in the third and the Conqs led 10-5 after three innings. Frank Phillips got a run in the fourth and another in the sixth, while the Conqs scratched one more across in the fifth and ultimately grabbed the 11-7 win.
Conqs pounded out 14 hits in the win with several multi-hit games for multiple Conqs. Galaviz was 3-3 with a walk, a double, a home run, and four runs scored, while Cash was 3-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and three RBI.
Josie Oakley was 2-3 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk. Moore added a 2-4 game with three RBI, a home run, and a run scored.
In the circle, Oakley earned the win tossing five innings while
Shyann Clark finished the game by tossing the final two innings.
Game 2 – Won 15-5 vs Frank Phillips
In the second game of the day it was the Conqs doing the scoring early and often over the first three innings plating 15 runs on 13 hits in the game. In the bottom of the first the Conqs bat around to score five with an RBI single by Cash and an RBI triple from Moore to highlight the inning. In the second the Conqs added four more runs as Cash belted a two-run home run. Leading 9-0 the Conqs tacked on six more runs in the third batting around for the third straight inning. Cash hit her second two-run home run of the game and
Campbell Anderson smacked a three-run home run in the third as the Conqs led 15-0. Entering the fifth the Conqs needed just three outs to record the run-rule win and would get those outs but after Frank Phillips did break through and score five in the fifth, it was not enough as the Conqs won 15-5 in five innings.
Marcotte earned the win in the circle tossing all five innings, not giving up a run until the fifth inning.
At the plate, Cash had another strong game as she was 3-3 with two home runs, three runs scored, and five RBI. Galaviz went 2-2 with two runs scored and a double, while
Jordyn Boxberger added a 1-1 game with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Moore again was strong at the plate as she was 3-3 with a triple, a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Anderson finished 1-1 with a three-run home run and two walks.
