Softball Wins In Walk-off Fashion in Game Two Versus Garden City For Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The start of conference play for the Dodge City softball team has had a flare for the dramatics as the Conquistadors didn't disappoint against rival Garden City with a split of the doubleheader winning game two in walk-off fashion. 

The Conqs would drop a tough 4-1 game in the first game of the doubleheader and then responded with a 6-5 game two win with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win. 

The split on the day moves the Conqs to 5-10 on the season and 3-1 in KJCCC action, while marking the third straight doubleheader in the series that has been split between the teams.  

The Conqs return to action as they travel to Borger, Texas on Monday, March 3rd for a non-conference twinbill against Frank Phillips starting at 1:00 pm. 

Game 1 – Lost 4-1 vs Garden City 
The Conqs would see their opponent generate an early scoring opportunity again in the first inning but this time the Conqs would work out of the jam in the top of the first as Garden City left the bases loaded. The game remained scoreless until the fourth when Garden City plated three runs by hitting for the cycle as a team in the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, the Conqs scratched a run across to make it 3-1. A solo home run by Garden City in the fifth made it 4-1 and the Conqs would be only able to generate one more base runner after the fourth ultimately falling 4-1. 

In the loss, Frankie Martens tossed four innings of action, while Jordyn Boxberger tossed three scoreless innings of relief. At the plate, Rylie Miller led the Conqs going 2-3, while Anistyn Marcotte, Whitley Cash, and Elly Tancayo each had a hit. 

Game 2 – Won 6-5 vs Garden City 
The home run ball played a big part in game two of the doubleheader starting with Garden City blasting a solo home run in the second to take the lead. The Conqs countered in the bottom of the second as Miller delivered a two-out RBI single to get the Conqs on the board and then Riley Moore belted a two-run home run lifting the Conqs to a 3-1 lead. Garden City would tally a run in the fourth and another in the sixth to even up the game at 3-3. In the top of the seventh, the Conqs recorded two quick outs but Garden City then smacked back-to-back home runs to take the 5-3 lead. The Conqs after the first out of the bottom of the seventh would get a walk, then fielder's choice, followed by a hit batsman, and then a three-run home run by Kloe Nelson to give the Conqs the 6-5 walk-off win. 

Boxberger tossed 5.1 innings as the start, while Shyann Clark in relief tossing 1.2 innings earned the win in the circle. Moore paced the Conqs at the plate going 2-2 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI, and a hit by pitch. Marcotte, Nelson, and Miller each had a hit in the Conqs win.
